The Biomedical Society of Zambia (BMSZ) is a professional body of medical laboratory professionals in Zambia. Its core mandate is to promote professionalism in medical laboratory practice to meet the current and future needs of evidence-based medicine, public health and research. BMSZ will be holding its Annual Scientific Symposium at Chrismar Hotel in Livingstone, Zambia from 14th to 16th December 2022. The symposium will be held under the theme "Current medical laboratory lessons for responses to future pandemics." The symposium will attract international and local speakers to discuss among other things in-depth key lessons from current pandemics to combat future outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
The symposium will also centre around the important role of laboratory medicine in healthcare and how medical laboratories can better support the Ministry of Health's mission of providing equitable access to cost-effective, quality healthcare services as close to the family as possible. Out of this meeting will come policy recommendations, advocacy and position papers aimed at strengthening laboratory systems in Zambia. Further, it is expected that industry players from both private and public sectors will network to enhance public-private partnerships in the medical laboratory sector in line with the government's policy direction.
The event will culminate in an annual general meeting and Awards Gala Dinner where individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the biomedical profession in Zambia will be recognised and awarded.
