With changes to the political landscape in Myanmar since the military's seizure of power on February 1, 2021, investors have become much more aware of the importance of taking additional measures to best meet the standards of responsible investing. Although Myanmar has never before been considered as a low-risk country, the sanctions imposed by the U.S., U.K. and EU against state-owned businesses and other military-linked businesses and individuals, have alerted investors to the need for greater caution in doing business in the country.

For responsible PE/VC investors who seek to support their existing portfolio companies or to explore potential new investments, this session will help them to:

  • Understand the additional checks required as part of a wider compliance programme;
  • Consider measures that could be employed in seeking the promotion of greater integrity in the business environment.

The session will consider 4 particular areas of focus:

  1. Commercial & Operational
  2. Legal
  3. Environmental & Social
  4. Reputational

  1. Charles Bouhelier, Managing Director, Artelia Myanmar
