The Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations in partnership with the ASU School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership (SCETL), McCain Institute at ASU, and Cactus and Tryzub volunteer initiative invites you to our upcoming program, "Securing Tomorrow Together: Fostering Lasting Support for Ukraine in the U.S." on December 1 at 12:30 pm at the Marston Exploration Center at ASU Tempe Campus. Through the lens of unity, resilience, and strategic alliances, this program aims to ensure that U.S. support for Ukraine remains strong.


Join us as we welcome the largest delegation from Ukraine to Arizona to date. The program features a critical panel discussion on the ongoing importance of supporting Ukraine for both national and global security. The visit includes diplomatic engagements and a focused dialogue, emphasizing the crucial role of sustained support in fostering stability and international cooperation.


The panel program will feature members of Ukrainian Parliament: MP Olena Khomenko, MP Maria Mezentseva and MP Oleksandr Kovalchuk moderated by Director of the ASU School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership (SCETL), Professor Paul Carrese. Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, Dmytro Kushneruk will make remarks in addition to children who were kidnapped by the Russian military and have been released since.

    School Director and Professor of Arizona State University - School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership

    Professor Paul Carrese is the founding director of the School of Civic & Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University. He teaches at SCETL and also at the Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict at ASU. For nearly two decades he was a professor of political science at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and co-founded a new honors program blending liberal arts education and leadership education.

    He is author of "The Cloaking of Power: Montesquieu, Blackstone, and the Rise of Judicial Activism", and co-editor of three other books – on George Washington, constitutionalism, and American grand strategy. His most recent book is "Democracy in Moderation: Montesquieu, Tocqueville, and Sustainable Liberalism". He has held fellowships at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar; Harvard University; the University of Delhi (as a Fulbright fellow); and the James Madison Program, Politics Department, Princeton University. Professor Carrese received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Boston University and his Masters in Theology from Oxford University.

    Dmytro Kushneruk is Consul General at the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. He has served in this role since his appointment in 2020.

    Mr. Kushneruk joined the diplomatic service in 2006, having worked at different posts in the President’s Office. From 2012 to 2014, Mr. Kushneruk was posted as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the U.N. in New York. From 2014 to 2020, he served as Deputy Chief of Protocol to the President of Ukraine. Mr. Kushneruk holds the diplomatic rank of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the First class.
