1634068800District 7 Tavern and Savvor Lounge have teamed up to host a pop-up beer garden on Boston's City Hall Plaza from now until October 15th. There will be music, food, live entertainment, and networking opportunities for BECMA members and supporters. COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced.
Speakers
Cheryl is the 1st Vice President of the NAACP-Boston Branch. She is a former Executive Board Chair of EmergeMA, a political leadership training program. Cheryl sits on the Women's Pipeline for Change’s Oversight and Planning Board. She is an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star; a Prince Hall affiliated organization. She is a member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Council on Racial Justice and Equity. Most recently she was appointed to the Citizen’s Commission on Constitutional Amendment, as well as a board member of American Promise.
Before MassVOTE, Cheryl served as Campaign Manager and then Chief of Staff to State Representative Willie Mae Allen. Born in New York, Cheryl grew up in Boston; and is a graduate of Lesley College, Cambridge, MA.
A lifelong resident of Boston, Segun is a proud graduate of Boston Latin Academy and Morehouse College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and honors from the Phi Beta Kappa and
Golden Key Societies.
In August 2014, Segun co-organized the Boston Police Camera Action Team (BPCAT), which pushed Boston to adopt the mandatory use of body-worn cameras on police officers.
Segun currently serves as the President and CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. (BECMA), the chief advocacy organization for Black businesses across the Commonwealth. In April 2020 and 2021, Boston Magazine recognized Segun as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the City of Boston.” In July 2020, the Boston Globe recognized him on the front page of their Sunday edition as a “Man of the Moment” for his work in ramping up BECMA’s efforts to advocate for and direct resources to Black businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Globe also honored him as a “Bostonian of the Year” later that December.
Royal is a Boston native and the proprietor of Urban Food and Beverage. In 2017, Royal purchased and reopened the District 7 Tavern in Roxbury where it has served as the "Cheers" of Black Boston ever since.
