Head Evaluations - and Are Executive Sessions Wise?

John Littleford will join AAIE to look at well-intentioned and risky modes of evaluation, including the use of surveys or focus groups and forms of the 360 approach. Which head of school evaluation protocols work best, and under what circumstances? John will also discuss a 2023-24 NAIS Survey of the State of Independent School Governance, which states that more schools than in the past "now hold an executive session at every board meeting as needed." This session will explore the pros and cons of using executive sessions periodically or regularly and how this affects the board/head relationship. When is an executive session appropriate, and when is it not? There are times when it is essential and times when it is destructive.
