Hong Kong students are arguably one of the most stressful groups in the world. The pandemic has exacerbated the problem and taken a toll on the wellbeing of students. In a recent study, the respondents said the pandemic and the switch to online learning had affected their motivation and concentration. Another study showed that Hong Kong's children are the unhappiest they have been in at least five years, with the lack of social interaction and increasing sense of isolation.
The impact of the pandemic on student learning was also significant. It widened pre-existing opportunity and achievement gaps, hitting historically disadvantaged students hardest. The struggling with academic studies have also adversely affected the health and mental wellbeing of students.
As we prepare for the resumption of schools in September, what can parents and educators do to address the harm inflicted by the pandemic? How the use of digital technologies can promote student wellbeing and inclusion? How might we redouble efforts to provide engaging, student-centred and self-directed learning experience under a new hybrid learning model? What roles the whole community can play? Mr John Tsang will lead a panel discussion with 3 other Esperanza directors and the participants.
