Summary
Impact Bonds and other outcomes-based commissioning instruments offer development agencies and governments a powerful tool for increasing the impact of their resources and mobilizing private capital and know-how for progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through the Impact Bonds Working Group's (IBWG) activities, major development agencies have come together with other key ecosystem actors through a series of multi-day conferences, meetings, and technical sub-groups working virtually, to collaboratively identify recommendations and launch concrete initiatives to address the main barriers to mainstream pay-for-success financing approaches and move the market toward maturity. Information on previous Impact Bonds Working Group meetings can be found at www.ib-wg.com.
The IBWG's Fourth Annual Conference will be held in London from July 12-13, and is expected to convene representatives from over 70 major international development agencies, representing bilateral cooperation agencies, multilateral development organizations, private foundations, commercial investors, universities, think tanks, advisory firms and civil society organizations.
2022 highlights
- This year's meeting will mark the official launch of the Outcomes Accelerator, a core recommendation of the IBWG to continuously support pipeline acceleration, market facilitation, and knowledge sharing.
- After the success of the Pipeline Project Report (available here), a second edition will be presented during the event, updating an unique catalogue of emerging outcomes-based projects.
- The 2-days meeting will offer participants the opportunity to review the market evolution and reconnect with other community members during Day 1, as well as deepen discussion into key market issues and identify opportunities for collective action on Day 2.
- During the past few months, valuable inputs have been collected from community members through surveys, focus groups and individual interviews. After crossing this information with existing literature, the main market issues were divided into 5 discussion tracks, which will guide the discussion during the event and the creation of new working groups.
As with previous meetings, we will only be able to accommodate a limited number of participants, so we are encouraging organizations to do their best to limit participation to 1 person per organization and to register early.
