Implementing a Competency-Based Performance Management Program


Target Participants:

HR and Talent Development practitioners responsible for aligning the company's learning and development (L&D) and performance management systems to support talent development, in accordance with the Philippine Society for Talent Development's Talent Development Framework.


Course Rationale:

HR and Talent Development practitioners often struggle to align competency-based performance management systems with their organization's talent development goals. This misalignment can hinder employee growth and limit the effectiveness of both performance evaluations and L&D initiatives. This session addresses these challenges by equipping participants with practical strategies to integrate competencies into performance management, ensuring that both systems work together to support talent development.


Course Description:

This 4-hour online session is designed to help HR and Talent Development practitioners implement a competency-based performance management program that aligns with their organization's talent development framework. Participants will learn to effectively integrate competencies into performance evaluations, creating a more cohesive and supportive approach to employee growth and development.


Terminal Objective:

By the end of the session, participants will be to follow the necessary steps in implementing a competency-based performance management program that aligns with their organization's talent development framework and contribute to employees' talent development.


Enabling Objectives:

  1. Identify the key components of a competency-based performance management system.
  2. Describe the importance of aligning performance management with talent development.
  3. Outline the steps to integrate competencies into performance management processes.
  4. Modify a given competency-based performance management policy template to fit their performance management process
  5. Create an action plan to apply these concepts within their own organizations.

  • Interactive Lectures: Concepts will be introduced through short lectures, supported by visuals and real-world examples.
  • Case Studies: Participants will engage with case studies to understand practical applications.
  • Group Discussions: Breakout rooms will be used for small group discussions to deepen understanding.
  • Action Planning: Participants will create a personalized action plan to implement learning in their workplace.

Participants should prepare by reviewing their organization's current performance management and Competency frameworks. Active participation in discussions and activities is expected to maximize the benefit of the session.
