Intersectionality in the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment: A critical review and integration into international cooperation programmes and organizations

This course aims to strengthen the ongoing work of international cooperation staff and stakeholders in implementing policies, practices and mechanisms around the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Assault and Harassment (PSEAH) through an intersectional lens.

Course Description

The course will apply a learner-centered, experiential, where participants will engage with PSEAH policies, regulations and best practices to analyze and discuss effective ways to ensure intersectional considerations are streamlined across organizational and programmatic work. Course modules will be guided by the following learning objectives:

  • To provide an overview of PSEAH progress so far from both the global and Canadian perspectives
  • To explore the relevance of intersectionality in PSEAH,
  • To apply an intersectional lens to our existing processes and policies

In this module, participants will review best practices from organizations and trainers and reflect on their own experience and context. This three-hour session will engage with roll playing, breakout groups for collaboration discussion and problem solving and critically examine current practices of PSEAH modules for effective engagement with intersectional considerations.

    Sheila is a socio-cultural anthropologist and international cooperation consultant specializing in feminist analysis of organizational change, development policies, and food systems research. She teaches university courses on food and social change, cultural anthropology, and gender, writes about organizational change and development policies, dietary health and biotechnology, and regularly consults with international organizations working to strengthen food justice and feminist movements. She is the current Chair of the Board of Directors for Just Food Ottawa and serves as a Director of the Board with Farm Radio International.

    Sheila est une anthropologue socioculturelle et une consultante en coopération internationale spécialisée dans l'analyse féministe du changement organisationnel, les politiques de développement et la recherche sur les systèmes alimentaires. Elle donne des cours universitaires sur l'alimentation et le changement social, l'anthropologie culturelle et le genre, écrit sur le changement organisationnel et les politiques de développement, la santé alimentaire et la biotechnologie, et consulte régulièrement des organisations internationales qui travaillent au renforcement de la justice alimentaire et des mouvements féministes. Elle est actuellement présidente du conseil d'administration d'Alimentation juste Ottawa et siège au conseil d'administration de Radios Rurales Internationales.
