A perennial challenge for educators is how we can motivate student learning. Research has shown that there is a high correlation between student engagement and academic outcomes. To respond to the urgent need, Esperanza is pleased to partner with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to present a half-day webinar on how the application of technology, especially blended learning, can develop student agency and empower self-directed learning.
This half-day webinar will bring education experts from the US and Hong Kong to discuss and share some good practices to achieve student agency with the support of education technologies. Through the workshops, participants will have hands-on experience designing engaging and effective blended learning pedagogies. The webinar will be of interest to K12 educators and higher education teaching professionals, as well as EdTech startups, foundations and public sector departments/agencies responsible for education policy and promoting learning innovations.
Simultaneous interpretation from English to Cantonese will be provided.

Schools around the world are embracing the need for technology to be an integral component of quality education. Yet many stakeholders focus on incorporating various tools and apps, presuming transformations in learning will inherently follow. While others view technology in education as a "necessary evil" at worst, or a mere means to increased productivity at best.
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has a different vision for technology in education, which is why it developed the ISTE Standards. At their core, the ISTE Standards are about pedagogy, not tools. Which is to say, they emphasize the ways that technology can be used to amplify and even transform learning and teaching.
We are seeing trends in the field of education with more people realise the insufficiency of throwing digital tools into classrooms. Without further support, it is hard to expect valid changes in teaching and, more importantly, improved student outcomes. What has not been fully realized, however, is the potential for technology to mend gaps in equity, engage students as unique individuals and prepare them for an uncertain future. The ISTE Standards have been designed to accelerate this potential and drive innovation in education.
Participants of this Summit can enrol on a complimentary basis an ISTE U Course: Digital Literacy in the Classroom. This 5-hour self-paced online course guides K-12 educators in developing and utilizing digital literacy skills as a key component of digital citizenship to support students' development. Educators will have the opportunity to strengthen their digital literacy skills while also engaging in strategies for implementing digital literacy skills across the curriculum.
