Pat Barnes has been the Assistant Commissioner for Operation at NYSDOT since April 2023 and has been with the Department for 32 years. In this role he oversees the Offices of Transportation Maintenance, Traffic Safety and Mobility, Fleet Administration and Support as well as the Office of Modal Safety and Security.
Pat has risen through the ranks since he began working for the Department in 1992 as part of the DOT Region 5 design group in Buffalo. Pat moved to DOT Region 1 to work as a project manager in the structures group. He then joined the Region 1 Operations team in 2005, working in bridge maintenance for 10 years, including four years as the regional bridge maintenance engineer, as the Albany County resident engineer from 2015 to 2017, and as the Region Director of Operations from July 2017 until he stepped in to serve as Regional Director in October 2018, succeeding Sam Zhou.
Pat earned a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering form the University at Buffalo. He joined NYSDOT shortly after earning his degree. Pat is a native of Java, NY and lives in Duanesburg with his wife.
Sue Thomas, P.E., is the Vice President of KLD Engineering, P.C. She has 20 years of Traffic Engineering experience from projects including traffic simulation modeling, emergency planning, signal retiming, and adaptive control. She is a NYS Licensed Professional Engineer and has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath, UK, and a MS in Energy Studies from the University of Sussex, UK.
Mr. Amar Ali is a Deputy Director of ITS Management and System at the New York City Department of Transportation since 2023. In his role, Mr. Ali oversees the strategic planning, implementation, and maintenance of cutting-edge ITS solutions aimed at enhancing transportation efficiency, safety, and sustainability across the city's vast network. In his previous experience, Mr. Ali was involved in deploying and supporting Advanced Transportation Management Systems, in number of locations in the northeast region and he was involved in many other ITS programs such as the Transit Signal Priority , and the Connected Vehicles .
Mr. Ali has 20 years of professional experience in the US and overseas. Beside his experience in the US , Mr. Ali was involved in several Transportation and ITS projects in China, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Ali holds a Master’s degree in the major of systems & industrial engineering. He a is Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and a Certified Project Manager Professional .
Luigi incorporates his passion for transportation technology into all aspects of his work. With 22 years of traffic planning expertise, he leads transportation planning and advances mobility solutions for the Northeast and supports traffic projects and professionals across the U.S.
Regardless of project size, Luigi is a champion of innovation. He advises clients on data analytics and cutting-edge traffic technologies, with extensive experience in developing data collection programs, parking studies, corridor safety projects, traffic operations studies, adaptive signal studies, toll plaza studies, traffic impact studies, maintenance and protection of traffic analyses, and corridor studies.
Luigi has worked on many high-profile projects including being lead traffic engineer for both the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and Bayonne Bridge projects. He also managed two New York for-hire vehicle policy studies and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway mobility evaluation tool, the largest simulation project in North America at the time. For the past seven years, he’s led the traffic signal oversight team for Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, piloting automated signal performance measures along with the development of big data dashboards to provide a data-driven approach to managing traffic signals.
Beyond his project work and leadership role at HDR, Luigi is involved with Institute of Transportation Engineers Metropolitan Section, serving as the 2015 past president and the current technical projects chair. He also presents and moderates at both regional and national conferences and webinars.
Dr. Hella Alnajjar received her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in an accelerated three consecutive years from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (2016). In the Fall of 2017, she began her Ph.D. studies in Transportation Systems at NYU, Tandon School of Engineering. While pursuing her Ph.D., Hella worked under the supervision of Professor Kaan Ozbay as a researcher in the Urban MITS group. Mrs. Alnajjar is motivated by her interest in emerging intelligent transportation technologies such as connectivity and autonomy and assessing their impact on the current transportation system using novel scientific methods.
Dr. Austin V. Angulo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of CSEE at UB. His research focuses on pedestrian and bicyclist safety, micromobility, roadway design, virtual reality simulation, connected and autonomous vehicles, human factors, and transportation sustainability and equity. Dr. Angulo founded the Transportation Research and Visualization Laboratory at SUNY UB, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the research, training, and education of human interaction with transportation infrastructure using immersive virtual simulation methodologies. Dr. Angulo was a Dwight David Eisenhower Fellow at the Federal Highway Administration’s Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center where he worked on connected vehicle applications for pedestrian safety. Whilst at UVA, Dr. Angulo helped found the Omni-Reality and Cognition Lab which is dedicated to the education and research of human interaction with infrastructure systems and environments using alternative (virtual, mixed, and augmented) reality technologies. He is a subcommittee member of the TRB Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Analysis (ACS20-4). Before joining UB, Dr. Angulo was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Virginia (UVA).
Andrew Bartlett is a Transportation Engineer at the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) and is responsible for monitoring and reporting performance measures for the regional transportation network in Western New York and Southern Ontario. He is also responsible for the development of ITS projects and initiatives and maintaining the regional ITS architecture.
Andrew holds a Professional Engineering license in New York State, a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University at Buffalo, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Transportation Systems Engineering from the University at Buffalo.
Jennifer has been a traffic engineer with the Port Authority of NY & NJ for over 21 years, joining the agency in 1998. Over the years Jennifer has overseen and worked on major traffic planning, design, safety, and operations initiatives and projects at all PA facilities. She is currently the Principal Engineer for the Traffic Engineering Transportation Technologies group which is responsible for ITS planning, design, and construction support services to improve operational efficiency and help optimize the use of available transportation system network capacity. She is also responsible for managing the agency’s ITS program to help realize the agency’s ITS Strategic Plan mission through the use of transportation technologies.
Zilin is a Research Associate in Transportation Planning and Engineering in the Department of Civil and Urban Engineering at New York University. He received his Ph.D. degree at NYU and a master’s degree at the University of Florida. His research interests include applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in traffic incident management, transportation data and mobility modeling, and transportation policy.
Zilin plays a leadership role both within and beyond his research group, serving as the research
lead for multiple projects in collaboration with other research groups such as the University Transportation Research Center (UTRC) of the City University of New York (CUNY). He was honorably mentioned at the 2023 best dissertation award in Transportation Research Board
(TRB) Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications Committee.
Joe Bovenzi is the Deputy Director for Administration and Operations at the Genesee Transportation Council (GTC). His transportation planning experience includes Transportation System Management and Operations (TSMO) activities, Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) administration, infrastructure vulnerability and resiliency analyses, alternative fuel policy, and community transportation planning projects. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo, a Master’s in Geography from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, and a Master’s in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport. Joe is a graduate of the Eastern Transportation Coalition Operations Academy and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Patrick is the President of Consensus Systems Technologies, an ITS systems engineering firm. Patrick has worked with ITS systems for over 30 years and has been involved with the development of many major ITS and connected vehicle standards over the past 15 years, including NTCIP standards, the Traffic Management Data Dictionary (TMDD), and most recently, the systems engineer for the Connected Transportation Interoperability (CTI) standards, which he will present on. Patrick also develops ITS architecture, is a member of the National ITS Architecture team and has been ITS-NY conferences for over 25 years.
Mr. Chang currently works as a Senior Data Lead for the Transit Signal Priority Program in support of NYCDOT. In this role, he is responsible for maintaining, integrating, and archiving data for the TSP program from both the MTA and the NYCDOT. Mr. Chang uses various data management and analytic tools to provide stakeholders with actionable visualizations, reports, dashboards, and analyses in support of the deployment, operations, and maintenance of NYCDOT’s complex and large-scale TSP system. Mr. Chang holds a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Haggai is a PhD candidate at NYU’s C2SMARTER research center where his research focuses on the future of freight mobility, including electrification and new last mile modes. Prior to this, he got a master’s degree from Louisiana State University and worked at Arcadis for two years as a traffic engineer. He hopes to defend his dissertation soon, and in the meantime, he has returned to Arcadis as part of a new freight team interested in many of the same topics from his research.
Dr. Jingqin (Jannie) Gao is a dedicated professional with over 10 years of experience in transportation planning and engineering. She has led various projects funded by the U.S. DOT, National Academics and State and local agencies. As the Assistant Director of Research at the federal-funded C2SMARTER University Transportation Center, Dr. Gao assisted the center in securing a $15M grant to pursue a research and educational program focused on understanding and combating traffic congestion. Dr. Gao’s research has focused on ITS, AI solutions and urban analytics for smart transportation. Before joining NYU, Dr. Gao worked in the Modeling and Data Analysis unit at the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), which supports the agency’s internal planning, technical review processes, and coordinated with external agencies on regional projects. Beyond her academic pursuits, she champions women in STEM, diversity, equity, and workforce development. Dr. Gao was named Who’s Who America in Professional Women in 2023 and is a recipient of the Dr. Louis J. Pignataro Memorial Transportation Education Award by the ITE MET section and the National Leadership Legacy Award from the WTS-GNY chapter in 2019.
Becky graduated with a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University in 1996. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and is currently the Director of the Transportation Systems Management and Operations ( or “TSMO”) Bureau in the Office of Traffic Safety and Mobility in the Main Office of NYSDOT.
She started her career with NYSDOT in 1997 on Long Island as a Junior Engineer. After working for one year on a rotational program, spending a couple months in each of the Department’s major Offices, she was assigned to Traffic and Safety designing traffic signals. In 2005, she moved to the Main Office to work for the System Optimization Bureau, now known as TSMO, in the Office of Traffic Safety and Mobility. Becky oversees several units with responsibility for traffic signals, signal and ITS engineering, operational asset management, TMC Operations, Safety Service Patrol, Traffic Incident Management, and is also the NYSDOT program manager for the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program.
Athena Hutchins is the Executive Director of the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) providing overall leadership and management responsibilities for the multi agency international coalition of transportation entities in Western New York and Southern Ontario. As director of the Coalition, Athena is responsible for multi-agency Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) operations and technology deployment, information dissemination, standards development, incident management, and regional collaboration across international boundaries.
Athena Hutchins is a Licensed New York State Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University at Buffalo.
Athena’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), WTS International, Intelligent Transportation Society of New York (ITS-NY) and ITS Canada. Athena is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for ITS-NY and a member of the Transportation Research Board Freeway Operations Committee and Regional Transportation Systems Management and Operations Committee.
Matthew Juckes, currently the President of Aimsun, Inc., has 25+ years of professional experience in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and transportation modeling and planning. Matthew’s expertise includes integrated corridor management (ICM), ITS modeling, large scale microscopic and mesoscopic simulation models, data, analysis and optimization of transportation databases, corridor needs studies. Through his years of experience both in modeling and in systems engineering he has had several papers and articles published and has presented at various TRB and ITS related events such as the TRB Annual Meeting, ITS Canada, ITS World Congress, and USDOT ICM workshops. Matthew is currently the Member of the TRB Freeway Management Committee, and the Chair of the Emerging Concepts Sub Commit of the TRB Freeway Management Committee, and a current board member of ITS-NY.
Preston Judkins is a Traffic Engineer and Project Manager for ITS Projects across North America, as well as signal timing, design, and operations. Some of Mr. Judkin’s projects include Truck Parking, Statewide Integration (Michigan, Illinois), Tollway ITS Lead (Indiana, Illinois; Rhode Island), County (Lake County), City (Chicago), and managed lane specific (Michigan, Virginia, Illinois, New York). He is a graduate from the research-intensive University of Wisconsin in Civil Engineering and holds an MBA from the University of Illinois.
Greg Krueger is leading the charge for the deployment of Connected and Automated vehicles and other Emerging Mobility Technologies at the local, state and federal levels as HNTB’s emerging mobility programs director. Greg has spent the past 30 years working on projects that aim to integrate technology with transportation and the surrounding infrastructure to improve the safety and mobility in the movement of goods and people. Prior to joining HNTB, Greg served as MDOT’s Program Manager for the statewide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program, overseeing all development, deployment, operations and maintenance of ITS throughout the State of Michigan.
Mr. Krueger received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and his Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Traffic Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Mr. Krueger is currently the vice-chair of the ITE Smart Communities Committee, the former chair of the TRB ITS Committee, and has a PE in Michigan, Missouri and Texas.
Tu Lan is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban Systems at New York University, set to graduate in May 2024. His research centers on Data-Driven Decision Making in Capital Resource Management, tackling the intricacies of urban resource allocation. Tu is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at C2SMART, where he leads a team in creating a model to forecast resource requirements for the New York State Department of Transportation. This critical work involves analyzing historical staffing practices, project scopes, and resource distributions to align staffing levels with the 5-year Capital Plan. In addition to his academic pursuits, Tu made significant contributions during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic by playing a key role in the development of the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 dashboard. This involved comprehensive data management, validation, and the creation of mathematical models to support epidemiological data monitoring. His dedication to impactful research and data-driven solutions underscores his commitment to advancing knowledge and solving real-world challenges.
Paul Lennon is the Chief Technology Officer at Skyline Technology Solutions, where he leads the company's IT strategy and service delivery. Paul collaborates with clients to shape their strategic direction, drive technological innovation, foster team development, and enhance operational processes. His responsibilities include delivering IT-driven solutions in areas such as Enterprise and Service Provider Network Services, Physical Plant (fiber) management, IT Security and Assurance, and Public and Private Cloud services.
Paul has contributed significantly to the development and implementation of communication and cybersecurity architectures of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) across Maryland, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and various other states' Departments of Transportation.
With 25 years of experience, Paul has extensive expertise in consulting, operations management, and program management. He specializes in developing and managing business-centric IT solutions for Departments of Transportation, statewide IT initiatives, local and municipal governments, and the commercial sector.
Steve Levine became the Executive Director of TRANSCOM in September of 2017. Founded in 1986, TRANSCOM has become a national model of how separate agencies can work together cooperatively toserve the travelling public. TRANSCOM (Transportation Operations Coordinating Committee) is a coalition of the 16 major highway, transit and public safety agencies in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut region. It is uniquely organized as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, headquartered in Jersey City, NJ.
Prior to joining TRANSCOM, he had a diverse mix of public and private sector transportation experience. His prior experience in the private sector included serving as the E-ZPass® NY Program Manager at Conduent and senior consulting positions with Jacobs Engineering, Group, Kimley-Horn and Associates, and TransCore ITS. He also spent 13 years with the Texas Department of Transportation in the Houston District Office. He holds an M.P.A. from Baruch College, a Master’s in Civil Engineering from Penn State and Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union. He is also a member of the ITS NY and ITS NJ Boards.
Mark Littler has a wealth of experience in the communications and engineering field, with roles ranging from Senior Engineer to Communications Lead. At HDR, Mark serves as the Communications Lead, overseeing the communications systems design team. Additionally, Mark has held positions as Board Member at ITS-NY, Senior Project Manager at Parsons, and Lead Systems Engineer at Downtown Design Partnership. Mark holds a BEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from London South Bank University, as well as an MS in Engineering Management from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Paul Maye is the ITS and Smart Mobility Lead Engineer and Business Leader for Arup. Paul has over 20 years of experience in ITS and Smart Mobility systems, design, operations, and integration. He is based in New York and as such, has worked extensively with major agencies in the region, including NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NJDOT, MTA, and the PANYNJ. As a Chartered Professional Engineer in the UK with CCNA certification, Paul also supports Intelligent Mobility projects at Arup's offices around the globe. Paul aims to deploy ITS that is both technologically innovative and socially useful- ITS that enhances safety and user experience and mitigates negative externalities of travel through data-informed operations.
Judith has worked for New York State Department of Transportation for over 25 years in the Construction, Traffic Safety and Mobility and Planning Unit. She also served as an Assistant to the Regional Director for 8 years.
Her current position is as a Joint Transportation Management Center (JTMC) Manager. In this capacity, Judith supervises the daily activities of the JTMC; informs Region 11 staff about incidents of major significance; reviews and coordinates construction calls to the JTMC, including late running construction; participates in Monthly Partner’s Meetings, Monthly Equipment Meetings; reviews and assigns JTMC staff schedules; and works on weather related incidents. Judith also serves as a leader on the Region 11 Emergency Management Team.
Judith is a Panel Chair – TRB - National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine; NCHRP Project 03-148. Judith is also a member of the AASHTO - CTSO Communications Technology Working Group and a member of the TRB ACP15 - Standing Committee on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Judith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Pratt Institute and a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering from The City College of New York. Judith is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Judith Peter is also an Adjunct Professor at the City College of New York.
Phil is a Senior Professional Associate and the NY/NJ Section Lead for HDR’s Advanced Technology for Surface Transportation practice. He is a licensed professional engineer in NY and VA. Phil started his ITS career working for JHK/TransCore on the NYSDOT R10 INFORM Operations & Maintenance contract. He stayed 24 years with JHK, working on TBTA, NYCDOT, and NYSDOT projects. In 2013 Phil moved to HDR to serve as the ITS and Tolling Design Lead for the NYS Thruway’s Mario M. Cuomo Bridge project and has remained with HDR for the last 11 years, working primarily in NY and Virginia. Phil has been featured in ITS International Magazine and on HDR Experts Talk; and has contributed papers or presentations to ITE, ITS World Congress, ITS America, and ITS-NY.
Mr. Sosa came to Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) in January of 2016 after a 34-Plus year career with NYSDOT While with NYSDOT he served in several positions but most notably as the Director of the INFORM Transportation Management System for 20 years; as Region 10 Director of Traffic Operations for 13 years; and as acting Regional Traffic Engineer for 2½ years. In his new position at GPI, Mr. Sosa provides senior project management related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, Integrated Corridor Management, Open Road Tolling, Connected Vehicle Systems, traffic operations, incident/emergency management, and special event planning
Dr. Mohamad Talas brings long-standing career experience in traffic engineering and operation and continues with over 30 years’ experience at the New York City Department of Transportation. He currently serves as the Director of NYCDOT Systems Engineering and ITS Project Management, where he supervises the Intelligent Transportation System projects and initiatives in New York City. These projects include management of the New York City Traffic Computerization System at the Traffic Management Center, which is modernizing and operating over 13,700 signals: the currently deployed Active Traffic Management System systems in Manhattan “Midtown In Motion” and Adaptive Control System implementation citywide, in addition to ITS Deployment on Highways and local street networks. In the last five years, Dr. Talas has been leading the NYC Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment project management.
Dr. Talas has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at NYU –Tandon School Of Engineering Transportation Graduate Program. He earned his PH.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering from NYU-Poly University and Master degrees in Transportation, Planning and Engineering as well as in Electrical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mohamad is a licensed Professional Engineer and is a member of the Intelligent Transportation Systems of America organizations, ITE, and a member of Intelligent Transportation Systems Advance Transportation Controller National Standards.
Dr. Hema Tanikella is currently a Project Manager and a Consultant Technical Lead for the Transit Signal Priority Program in support of NYCDOT. Dr. Hema Tanikella has over 11 years of experience in research, planning, design, deployment, and operations in Intelligent Transportation Systems and Traffic Technology deployments. As a consultant, Hema has served various agencies in the Northeast working on regionally significant projects involving a diverse set of ITS systems including Integrated Corridor Management Systems, Wrong Way Driving Systems, and Transit Signal Priority. Working as part of these projects, Hema has provided technical expertise and program management services to various agencies including the New York State Department of Transportation, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the New York City Department of Transportation. Hema holds Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in the field of Transportation Systems Management and has worked on research projects in Connected Vehicles and Traffic Operations.
Dr. Veeregowda is Vice President with HNTB New YorkEngineering and Architecture, P.C. and the Chief Engineer (transportation and traffic engineering) for HNTB’s Northeast Division. HNTB is the second largest transportation engineering firm in the U.S. with over 4,500 engineers and 40 offices around the country. Dr. Veeregowda is a licensed professional engineer, professional transportation operations engineer (PTOE) and associate value specialist (AVS) with more than 30 years of experience managing, complex engineering analysis and design solutions for major highway, transit, rail, airport, bridge and automated people mover (APM) projects spanning the East Coast. Dr. Veeregowda is extensively involved in developing strategic transportation business
plans and successfully led several major infrastructure projects. He is proficient in planning, project management, and delivery of major infrastructure and land development projects in the Northeast Division, especially in complex urban areas such as New and New Jersey.
Dr. Veeregowda has worked on several major design-build (DB) infrastructure proposals and projects, including development of alternative technical concepts (ATCs), project delivery, and
risk assessments during pre- and post-award phases to save money and schedule and to enhance
value.
Further, he brings a comprehensive understanding of infrastructure projects and has provided value engineering services on several complex infrastructure projects to achieve cost savings and to enhance value. Dr. Veeregowda's experience has included managing and completing several marquee projects that involved major Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and complex transportation engineering analyses and design, such as the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville; the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT)’s Kosciuszko Bridge DB; the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s (NYCEDC) Yankee Stadium; the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) –World Trade Center Permanent PATH station; NYCEDC’s 8 million square-foot
mixed use development for Hunter's Point South; LIRR’s East Side Access; PANYNJ’s AirTrain JFK; New Jersey Transit’s (NJT) Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, NJT’s Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link; NYCEDC’s 9 million square-foot mixed use for Coney Island; MTA New York City Transit’s (NYCT) Second Avenue Subway; the New York City Department of Transportation’s (NYCDOT’s) Select Bus Service; and many other prominent projects. In addition, Dr. Veeregowda served as the traffic, transit, pedestrian, ferry, and bicycle task manager and performed the various data analytics and traffic analysis for New York City Congestion Pricing which, when implemented in January 2021, will generate $1.75 B revenue and reduce traffic and congestion in the NYC urban core.
Dr. Veeregowda is a Fellow of the ITE and he earned his doctoral degree in transportation engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Dr. Veeregowda serves on the board of many Hindu organizations and he is instrumental is getting zoning and site plan approvals for many Hindu temples throughout the. Dr. Veeregowda practices yoga, pranayama, and meditation and has taught them to others for the last 15 years.
Krishna Venkataswami serves as the Assistant Vice President for ITS at MTA Bridges and Tunnels, where she leads all ITS and Operations System projects. As the CEO of the TSMO/ITS capital program, she oversees a 5-year budget exceeding $40 million. Her 30+year professional journey includes a 14-year stint at JHK Associates/TransCore, where she provided consulting services for major transportation agencies in the mid-Atlantic region.
Krishna's outstanding contributions have been recognized with multiple awards from ITS New York for Outstanding Projects and the 2019 ACEC NY Engineering Excellence Gold Award for Operation Command and Command Control Systems. She is a licensed professional engineer with Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Madras and a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from NJIT.
Ye Wang joined the Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering at the SUNY University at Buffalo in summer 2023 as PhD Student under the supervision of Dr. Angulo. Ye Wang obtained his Master of Engineering degrees under Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department at University of Toronto and Civil Engineering department at University of Virginia. His research topics include transportation planning, transportation safety analysis, mixed reality and 3D modeling, machine learning algorithms on sensor data, and computer vision applications.
Ye also had professional experiences as transportation engineer, data analyst and front-end developer at university medical research lab, and certified EIT in Virginia.
Mr. Hai Yang is currently studying for his Ph.D. in the department of Civil and Urban Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, under the guidance of Professor Joseph Chow. His research focuses on the urban transportation logistics network, especially using NYC as his case study. Mr. Yang went studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong where he received his bachelors degree. He then earned his Master's degree from Northwestern University. Hai previously worked at UPS as an Operations Analyst for three years before pursuing his Ph.D.
Shuo is a current Ph.D. student in Transportation systems. Before joining NYU as a PhD student in Fall 2023, he earned his MSc in Transportation engineering at UCLA and BSc in Civil engineering at Dalian Jiaotong University.
Henan (Beaty) Zhu is a Ph.D. student in Transportation Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), specializing in multimodal transportation, network modeling, and decision-making using large language models and machine learning. She is also engaged in promoting equity and efficiency, developing innovative strategies within the field of transportation. Beaty has presented her academic works at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting and received a Student Travel Grant at RPI. Before arriving at RPI, Beaty completed a Master’s Degree from Beijing Jiaotong University in China. In the future, she aims to further her research on integrating emerging technologies to optimize the balance between transportation demand and network supply, particularly in rural areas.
