The LGALN hosted a 3-part workshop the focused-on legislation, local government, conflict resolution and advocacy. During the 3 workshops, participants raised critical issues they required further training and assistance with, amongst these, litigation and how to address corruption at local government level were rated as the most important.
South Africa's legislation provides measures for the effective running of local government, however, corruption and the incompetence of local government officials have negatively affected the efficiency of how local government is run. This has a ripple effect as human rights violations, lack of service delivery and poorly run municipalities can be linked to the above.
