Dr Neville Vlok is currently a senior registrar in emergency medicine. Prior to this he acted as Chief Medical Officer for HALO EMS whilst performing numerous rotary- and fixed wing missions, as well as being a resident medical officer at one of South Africa’s largest private emergency centers. He successfully obtained the Diploma in Retrieval and Transport Medicine in 2019 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, the first African to do so. Apart from advocating for advanced interventions in the emergency center, he authored the first case reports of eCPR implementation in South Africa after completing training under the auspices of Dr Lionel Lamhaut in Paris, France. He has a keen ongoing interest in contextual appropriate pre-hospital systems of care.
Dr Marlice van Dyk achieved her M.B. and Ch.B at the University of the Freestate. In 2000 she completed her fellowship at the College of Anaesthetists in the Witwatersrand followed by a fellowship in Intensive Care. More recently, Dr van Dyk obtained her Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound from the University of Melbourne and is now currently proceeding with her Masters in Clinical Ultrasound with the University of Melbourne.
Currently practising as a Specialist Anaesthetist and Intensivist, Dr van Dyk’s interests lie in Critical Care. This passion and determination in her field have culminated in Dr van Dyk spearheading the establishment of the ELSO accredited ECMO Centre at Netcare Unitas Hospital. As the director of the ECMO Centre, Dr van Dyk runs numerous training sessions and continues to strive for excellence in this field.
Working in Netcare Unitas Hospital, Dr Marlice van Dyk practices as a Specialist Anaesthesiologist as well as Intensivist. Specialising in Critical Care, Dr van Dyk manages patient care in the ICU, High Care as well as following up in the wards.
Dr Welkovics currently holds the position as General Surgeon and Intensivist in Private
Practice at Netcare Unitas and Pretoria Urology as well as Cintocare Hospitals. He
obtained his MBChB at Pretoria University in 1992. A brief period as SHO in Accident
and Emergency and Orthopaedic Surgery in the UK followed, after which he joined the
Department of General Surgery at the University of Pretoria. He completed his
MMed(Chir) as well as FCS in 2002 being awarded the college medal. His training in
Critical care was also done at the University of Pretoria, and he completed the Certificate
in Critical Care in 2005. Since then he was involved in postgraduate training in Surgery
and Critical Care on a part-time basis till 2015. He was the Trauma Director for Netcare
Unitas Hospital and is currently the co-Director for the Netcare Unitas ECMO Centre and
in that capacity is actively involved in continued training at various levels. He was the
Northern Gauteng representative on the Central Council of the Critical Care Societies of
Southern Africa and is currently the representative for Private Practice on the same
forum. His fields of interest include Thyroid surgery, endoscopic hernia repair, advanced
ventilation monitoring, critical care, ultrasonography and ECMO.

Tash bickerton is a HEMS paramedic, meducator and masters student with a passion for education and training in emergency medicine spaces. She carries a wealth of experience in the prehospital and critical care retrieval environments as well as ems and medical education.
Kaleb lachenicht is a passionate medical educator and HEMS paramedic with a decade of experience in emergency medical training and instruction and critical care retrieval. He is excited by the learning process and the translation of medical theory and evidence into practice
Hugo Started his career at the young age of 16 years as being one of the youngest registered practitioners at the HPCSA. His interest in the EMS inspired him to chalenge the ILS exam whilst studying to become a Critical Care Technologist and working as a volunteer at the Pretoria Provincial Ambulance service and various private ambulance services. He qualified in 2003 (B.Tech Clin Tech (Crital Care) (SA)) and worked in both government (Steve Biko Academic Hospital / HF Verwoerd) where he quickly went through the ranks and became the acting Deputy Director of Clinical Technology (Critical Care), during this time he started the Hospital’s Resus Team and ALS training centre for staff at the SBAH. He also started working in the private sector and established a very busy private practice in Critical Care, finally he lectures part-time at the Univerity of pretoria and is a 15 year veteran BLS, BLS Faculty, ACLS, PALS, ACLS-EP, ITLS-A and TACMED USA Instructor, he also holds certification in Cardiac Surgical Unit – Advanced Life Support, GCP, ECMO Specialist and Aviation Healthcare Provider. His special interests lies in Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) and Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS). Hugo presents regular CPD workshops on Difficult Airway management, ventilations, ALS approch to CPR and Fluid resuscitation. He is currently completing his Masters degree in Clinical Ultrasound.
