What's kamayan? The term "Kamayan" itself translates to "eating with hands" in Tagalog. It is the elaborate, large format Filipino meal served on banana leaves and featured on Vice, ABC, Bon Appetit and Food & Wine. As the trend of Filipino cuisine continues to rise in the U.S., there is no better intro into the culture than a Kamayan dinner, a traditional Filipino communal feast where participants enjoy traditional and modern dishes including fresh fruit, grilled vegetables, meats and seafood served on rice over a bed of banana leaves. Embracing the rich cultural tradition, guests are encouraged to enjoy the meal entirely by hand, using their fingers instead of utensils.
