Join us for an inspiring talk by Mr. Lam Chiu Ying - "Nature or Environment - can we manage?"


The subtle difference between "Nature" and "Environment" will be discussed, to illustrate the evolving relationship between Homo sapiens and the rest of Planet Earth. Agriculture, industrialisation and urbanisation are key efforts to MANAGE Nature (or Environment), that have enabled human population to grow. But our management effort has apparently induced unfathomable feedback from Planet Earth. A survival crisis is looming. Can we Homo sapiens manage?


The session will be followed by the EMAHK 2020 AGM.


Everyone is welcomed to join the talk and AGM, although voting at the AGM is opened to EMAHK Certified and Full Members only.


EMAHK members who cannot join the AGM are encouraged to complete the proxy form and return to membership@emahk.org before 18:00 on 19 August 2020.

CPD: 1 CPD unit will be awarded to attendees of the pre-AGM talk.


Language: The talk and AGM will be conducted in English.

    Chiu Ying Lam

    Mr. Lam Chiu Ying is the Chairman of Hong Kong Countryside Foundation and Honourable President of Hong Kong Bird Watching Society. He was Director of the Hong Kong Observatory in 2003-2009. Since retirement he has been active in public speaking and internet writing, covering weather, climate change, conservation, infrastructure projects, history, happiness, etc

    The re-vitalisation of Lai Chi Wo Village is one of his main projects. He served as chairman of HKSAR Environmental Campaign Committee in 2013-2018 and as convenor of the Support Group for Long-term De-carbonisation Strategy Consultation under the Sustainable Development Council since 2018. His latest interest is identifying plants on the roadside.
