    Doug Smith currently serves as the Head of the Wealth Management Cyber and Privacy Legal team at Morgan Stanley, where he advises Morgan Stanley’s Wealth Management division on all privacy and data security matters. Doug arrived at Morgan Stanley via the acquisition of E*TRADE, where he served as an Associate General Counsel on the Privacy Legal Team.

    Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Doug worked at Capital One, including as a Director in Capital One’s Enterprise Products & Platforms Group, where he helped stand up the company’s Data Ethics and Privacy Office, and where he served as Capital One’s legal subject matter expert on privacy and data security. Prior to joining Capital One, Doug worked in the Intellectual Property, Data and Privacy Group at McGuireWoods LLP, where he engaged in trademark risk assessment, registration maintenance, licensing and dispute resolution, and counseling in the areas of copyright, music production and licensing, and software licensing.

    Doug currently serves as a co-chair of the Legal and Compliance Division’s Diversity and Inclusion Network at Morgan Stanley. Outside of Morgan Stanley, Doug is a member of the University of Virginia College Foundation's Richmond Regional Board and the Diversity Conference of the Virginia State Bar. He previously served as a member of the Board of Managers of the University of Virginia Alumni Association and as a board member and chair of the Ridley Scholarship Fund at the University of Virginia, which provides scholarships to high achieving African-American students admitted to the University of Virginia.
