Responsible Adoption of General Purpose AI
How to industrialize Generative AI? Fostering innovation and managing risks
A 2-Day in person PECC International Seminar in San Francisco, September 18th-19th, 2024
The FPTPEC and the US-PECC are pleased to invite you to their next in-person seminar in San Francisco on September 18th-19th, 2024, on the Responsible Adoption of General Purpose AI.
Generative AI is revolutionizing sectors globally, supported by significant investments and is projected to add up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy[1]. However, the societal implications and the risks of broad AI integration raise concerns. Global figures like UN Secretary-General António Guterres have pointed out the widening gap between AI advances and regulation, stressing the importance of swift and informed policymaking.
The Asia-Pacific region hosts the most critical actors in AI research, chip manufacturing, development, and deployment at scale. The semiconductor value chain already connects Asia-Pacific economies, exemplifying the intricate interdependencies that characterize regional and global production networks. This makes APEC well positioned to address and discuss the cross-cutting impacts of responsible AI deployment, as an incubator for emerging issues in the region.
This 2-day seminar will be under Chatham House Rule to enable deeper discussion. It will unite AI experts, scholars, industry adopters, and policymakers from APEC and beyond to assess AI's current state and dynamics, impact, and potential future development. Participants will discuss collaboration opportunities and define strategies for international governance and responsible innovation. The different sessions will explore recent AI advances, its emerging value chain, economic impacts, ethical considerations, and emerging risk management practices.
The PECC seminar will create policy recommendations to guide AI initiatives within APEC. These insights will also support global responsible AI innovation, as the recommendations will be shared at key international governance platforms starting with the France 2025 AI Action Summit, OECD Working Group on AI (AIGO) and the Paris Peace Forum in November 2024.
