This training session will primarily focus on adult restitution and will cover the following key areas:
What is Restitution? Restitution Losses Mandatory Restitution Recipients Most Important Case Law VCAP & Restitution Collection Efforts Final Tips & Takeaways In addition to these topics, there will be an extensive Q&A period to address any specific questions or concerns. This training is available statewide for individuals looking for both a review and to learn new information.
Please note: individual agency trainings are still available and may be preferred for groups within the same office.

Speakers
Amy Smulktis Restitution & Victim/Witness Training Consultant at Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association/Institute Amy has 20 years' experience in the criminal justice system, 17 years of which have been solely focused on restitution. She currently works with the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association/Institute (PDAA/I) to improve the restitution process statewide by leading numerous restitution trainings, as well as assisting counties with the imposition of restitution and facilitating the collaboration of county agencies. She also presented nationally as a panelist at the NAVAA Conference. Prior to her consulting work, she was a Restitution Advocate with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office for 10 years. There she investigated and prepared detailed restitution summaries for thousands of criminal cases in both the Adult and Juvenile Court systems, including restitution requests exceeding $1 million. She consulted individuals, banks, insurance companies, the Department of Human Services, and numerous other businesses and professional organizations to obtain restitution information. She also filed Victims Compensation claims on behalf of crime victims and communicated with VCAP's Financial Recovery Specialist to resolve restitution issues. Additionally, she prepared legal motions submitted by Assistant District Attorneys in the Lancaster Court of Common Pleas to modify Restitution Orders. On occasion, she accompanied victims to criminal proceedings for all levels of crimes. As of November 2018, Amy is also the Victim/Witness Training Consultant for the PDAA/I in which she organizes and leads the statewide Foundational Academies for new advocates and numerous Topical Trainings, verifies training requirements, and heads the Victim/Witness Training Subcommittee among other responsibilities.
