Can technology help sustainability?

Technology has the power to increase productivity, efficiency and cost savings, reduce product waste, chemicals and resources and measure, analyse and track progress, all of which can help tackle environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges.

Innovative solutions are essential to transform areas of high societal impact, including environmental protection, energy transition, decarbonization of industry and infrastructure, transport and mobility, agriculture and food, and healthcare.

In the coming decades the energy sector will undergo a complete metamorphosis. Energy efficiency needs to improve exponentially across all sectors including transport, buildings, and industry, in part driven by a rapid increase in electrification, smart grid technologies, and other emerging business models.

This webinar wishes to shed light on good practices and cutting-edge technologies that have been adopted in different industries, that can help attendees understand that innovative solutions are available, at reach, and will hopefully be conducive to the target of Vision 2050: a world where 9+ billion people can live well, within planetary boundaries, by mid-century.

Fireside Chat: Digitainability and SustainTech
Technology and digitalisation are essential enablers of transformation, and they need to be carefully driven to maximise their benefits. They are not a blessing in themselves, as they can exacerbate social divides, compound environmental risks
and destabilise societies. On the other hand, technology advancements can hugely impact the energy transition and decarbonization in terms of creating new opportunities to deliver efficiencies, new and more efficient renewable energy sources and ways of extracting GHG emissions from power generation and from the atmosphere.

Digitalization can fast-track the green economy by connecting people
around the world and encouraging a culture of global cooperation. Digitalization is also key to create the availability, transparency and accuracy of data essential for ESG purposes.

Panel Discussion: Sustainable Mobility as the Key to Transformation for Low-Carbon Cities
One of the greatest environmental challenges we face today lies in mobility. We need a seemingly infinite network of transportation systems for societies and economy to function efficiently. However, transportation is a huge contributor to the global CO2 emissions. Creating sustainable transportation solutions is one of the greatest challenges facing cities today but also a great opportunity for the low-carbon development of cities.

The panel discusses about carbon-neutral, energy-efficient transportation options which are sustainable on both environmental and business level.
