Atty. Dennis B. Funa is appointed as Commissioner of the Insurance Commission since 2016. He is a professional career Executive with proven management skills and esteemed scholastic records.

Commissioner Funa obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree in San Beda College of Law and passed the Bar in 1992. He was a 1997 scholar of the London-based International Bar Association in its Biennial Conference in New Delhi, India and of the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship in Tokyo, Japan.

Aside from authoring books on intellectual property, administrative law, and international law, among others, Commissioner Funa is presently an assistant professor at the De La Salle University-College of Law and at San Beda College Alabang, School of Law.

He served in the government in various capacities during the administration of former President Fidel V. Ramos, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President Benigno Aquino, Jr. and now President Rodrigo Duterte.

Greg's career started with Standard & Poor’s and has spanned over 30 years in the insurance sector. Greg worked for Bank of America in the mid-1990s and he established AM Best's first overseas office in London in 1997. In 2001, he joined Fitch Ratings and led the analytical team for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Greg has also spent time with the U.K. regulator, the FSA as was. He served on the board of Capita Commercial Insurance Services and prior to his current role was based in Hong Kong with Ernst & Young.

In September 2015, Greg re-joined AM Best as Managing Director - Analytics in the London office and is responsible for the agency’s credit ratings in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. In July 2019 Greg relocated from London to Singapore.

Myles Gould is Head of Analytics at AM Best Asia-Pacific (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, responsible for AM Best’s rating coverage in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Myles joined AM Best in 2013, initially based in the London office before relocating to Singapore in 2018. Whilst working for AM Best in London, Myles covered a variety of insurance markets including the UK, Europe and the Middle East, with exposure to non-life, life, insurance and reinsurance entities. Myles previously worked for Willis Towers Watson in the Global Market Security division based in the UK. Myles holds a BA (Hons) Business Management Degree.

Mr. Ashish Jain is Vice President and Managing Director of AIR Worldwide Singapore operations. Ashish is responsible for overall management of AIR’s Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand operations, including client services, research, business development, marketing. Ashish has over 17 years’ of experience in the field of Extreme Event Risk Management and has worked extensively with insurer & reinsurer to perform catastrophe analyses, interpret analysis results, optimize modelling workflows and, ultimately improve risk management practices. He has work extensively in the Asia Pacific region on disaster risk management, reduction, and financing initiatives. Ashish earned his MBA from IBS, Hyderabad, India with specialization in Insurance & Risk Management. Ashish has also achieved the designation of CPCU, Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) from the American Institute of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.

Experienced research scientist with a demonstrated history of working in academic and industrial research. Skilled in various molecular and microbiology-related skills, with knowledge in aquaculture, zoology, pathogenic microorganisms, immunology, and environmental/soil sciences (chemistry and biology). Strong proven track record in inter-disciplinary studies, and able to work independently across different projects. Specialising in complex community metagenomic/metatranscriptomic analysis - from DNA/RNA extraction to purification to sequencing to downstream bioinformatics analysis. Specialist in troubleshooting, maintaining, and using PCR technologies: traditional PCR, real-time PCR (qPCR), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR).

Ms. Cherry Lorenzo, Head of Catastrophe Risk Management, has over ten years of experience in catastrophe modeling, (re)insurance pricing, model evaluation, project management, geographic information systems, and disaster risk financing and insurance. Before joining Nat Re, she was an Associate Director for Catastrophe Management at Aon in Singapore, where she handled delivering, interpreting, and communicating catastrophe modeling analyses to insurance companies in the region. At RR Donnelley where she was a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst, she worked for ACE Insurance, servicing their Asia Pacific offices including those in Australia and New Zealand. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Geodetic Engineering at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Admiral Alexander Patiño Pama is the former Executive Director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Administrator of the Office of Civil Defense.

He also worked under the Office of the Executive Secretary and was the Executive Director of the National Coast Watch Council Secretariat, an inter-agency body created under Executive Order No. 57 s. 2011 by President Aquino in 2011.

This assignment to the Department of National Defense was Usec. Pama’s third stint at the DND during the term of then Minister of National Defense (MND) Juan Ponce Enrile from 1983 to 1987 and second, as the Senior Military Assistant and Chief of Staff to the SND under Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr.

Retired Vice Admiral Pama is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979 and served as Flag Officer in Command until his retirement on 21 December 2012.

During the course of his career, he underwent and excelled in various military and civilian education and training course.

As Group Managing Director, Mr. Pang oversees Asia Reinsurance Brokers' (ARB) business portfolio and operations across all territories. He is also a Director and a member of ARB's Board of Management.

He started his career in the (re)insurance industry 25 years ago having worked for Munich Re, ACR and JLT Re. His experience ranges from reinsurance underwriting, client management and broking. Throughout his career he has held various senior management positions.

Mr. Eckart Roth is Chief Risk Officer of Peak Re. He is a seasoned reinsurance professional with more than 25 years of experience in the regional and international reinsurance markets and a proven track record in building and implementing comprehensive risk management systems during his previous experience with various global reinsurers.

Prior to founding Peak Re together with Mr. Franz Josef Hahn, Mr. Roth ran and owned a consultancy which offered tailored reinsurance solutions to financial institutions in Asia Pacific, Europe and the US.

Before that, Mr. Roth was Managing Director and Global Risk Officer at White Mountains Re, covering Europe, Bermuda and US.

Previously, he was the Head of Outward Reinsurance and Chairman of Security Committee at Gerling Konzern Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG, Cologne in Germany, where he was responsible for placing of their reinsurance business.

During 1997-2003, Mr. Roth held a number of senior positions at various Munich Re companies. He was a member of the Executive Board at Nouvelle Compagnie de Réassurance in Geneva where he helped the company build up its financial reinsurance business, and Senior Underwriter Casualty at Munich-American
Risk-Partners where he developed a casualty book from Fortune 500 clients.

Educated in Germany and France, Mr. Roth is a qualified lawyer.

Scott entered the insurance industry in 1977 straight after leaving school. Scott spent 4 years in the direct market with City Mutual and Sphere Drake. Moving to Munich Re in 1980 Scott worked across the Marine and Casualty classes. In 1986, Scott joined Alexander Howden (Australia) and spend 2 years working in the London market.

On returning to Australia, Scott started Nac Re in Australia which became XL Re and then moved to Singapore to run the region for XL Re in 2002. Scott then joined Allianz Re, Singapore, as the Regional Chief Executive Officer in 2008 until 2011. From 2012 to 2013, Scott worked at Guy Carpenter before starting “Ryrie Consulting”. Scott joined AM Best as Commercial Director, Asia-Pacific in 2016 and moved back to Sydney in 2017 as CEO of RMIA.

In April 2019, Scott returned to Singapore and AM Best. Scott is the Managing Director & Co-CEO at A.M. Best Asia-Pacific (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Since 2008 Richard has been based with Willis Re in Singapore where he runs the catastrophe risk analysis team and represents Willis's catastrophe modelling and analysis capabilities in support of brokers in SE Asia, as well as coordinating the regional activities of the Willis Research Network. Richard has worked for Willis Re since 1994 and was one of the founders of the Catastrophe Management Services (CMS) group in Willis, and is one of their senior catastrophe specialists. He has worked on many major projects carried out for Willis in the catastrophe specialism, and has worked on natural hazards projects in Japan, Algeria, Europe and particularly in Asia. He is very broadly experienced in catastrophe risk analysis for the insurance industry and has wide ranging knowledge across the discipline, with specialism’s in non and poorly modelled territories and hazards particularly in flood modelling. Richard has co-authored with other CMS team members several papers which have been published in academic journals around the world.

Responsible for Willis's catastrophe modelling and analysis capabilities in support of brokers in SE Asia, as well as working on other Asian territories.

Richard was one of the founders of the Catastrophe Management Services (CMS) group in Willis.

He has 25+ years of experience in local and international insurance/reinsurance markets in the US, Asia and Europe. Prior to his current role, he was Nat Re’s Chief Operating Officer. He has held various leadership positions in several other companies including Chief Operating Officer for the Affiliate Companies of Philam Life, Regional Chief Financial Officer for Europe at Cigna, Global Head of Product Development at Cigna, and Chief Actuary for Asia at Allied World Assurance Company. He is also the current Chairman of the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA), and a Trustee in the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP).

Mr. Santos holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Math and Bachelor of Science in Math both from the University of the Philippines. He is a Fellow of both the Actuarial Society of the Philippines and the Society of Actuaries (US).

Benedicto “Benedict” Sison is the Chief Executive Officer and Country Head of Sun Life Financial Philippines. He is also the Chairman of the Sun Life Prosperity family of funds, and
of Sun Life Foundation, Inc. In addition, he is currently the President of the Philippine Life Insurance Association.

Benedict received his MBA from the University of California Riverside Graduate School of Management in California, USA, on a full tuition academic scholarship. He was also bestowed the prestigious George W. DuBois Memorial Award for his scholastic achievement.

He also has a degree in BS Business Administration from the University of the Philippines, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. In December 2012, he was honored by the institution with the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. is a geologist having obtained a BS Geology degree from the University of the Philippines. He finished his M.Sc. in Geological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his PhD.

Yuan Tian is a Senior Financial Analyst and joined AM Best in 2019. Before joining AM Best, she worked for several insurance and reinsurance companies in London and Singapore. She is a fully qualified actuary with experience in insurance pricing, reserving, risk management and data analytics. She has a degree in Mathematics from University of Cambridge and a Master degree in Applied Statistics from University of Oxford.
