The Urban Development Webinar Series returns for its second session, continuing our insightful discussions on urban policies and development in Kenya. This webinar, titled "Sustainable Infrastructure", will focus on the critical role that infrastructure plays in shaping sustainable urban futures and how Kenya can develop resilient, green and inclusive cities.
Kenya is currently at a pivotal point in its urbanization journey, and the demand for sustainable infrastructure has never been more urgent. As we navigate through rapid population growth and the increasing pressure on urban spaces, it is imperative that we invest in infrastructure that not only meets today's needs but also paves the way for future generations.
This session will bring together expert voices from key sectors to provide insights and strategies that can drive the transition to sustainable urban infrastructure in Kenya.
Infrastructure is the backbone of urban development, influencing everything from transportation networks and energy systems to water management and waste disposal. In today's rapidly urbanizing world, the sustainability of these systems is paramount to creating livable cities that are resilient to environmental changes and capable of supporting economic growth and social well-being.
Sustainable infrastructure encompasses the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure that minimizes environmental impacts while maximizing social and economic benefits. This includes reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, enhancing mobility, promoting inclusivity, and integrating nature-based solutions. In Kenya, sustainable infrastructure has become central to the country's long-term development goals, including the realization of Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
However, challenges remain, including inadequate funding, policy gaps, and a lack of integrated planning.
This webinar will explore these challenges and propose actionable solutions to ensure that Kenya's urban infrastructure is sustainable, inclusive, and future-proof.
