Tasneem’s professional journey began when she graduated as an occupational therapist from the University of Cape Town in 2002. Through the years she has worked in a variety of settings from mental health, spinal cord injury, neuro rehabilitation, to special education. However, it was in mental health that she found her sense of purpose. She is currently practicing as an Occupational Therapist in private practice and strives to be a neurodiversity ally, providing education and awareness, support, therapy and coaching, to adults and teens who struggle with executive functioning and sensory regulation, with a special interest in ADHD. She is also a founding Director of the NPC, Jozi4Autism. In addition to her work as an occupational therapist and coach, Tasneem is also the founder of the Private Practice Growth Club - a community-building, education and empowerment initiative, for South African health professionals in private practice. As the saying goes: “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, so Tasneem is passionate about helping South African health professionals develop the mindset and business skills needed to minimize the struggle and overwhelm of trying to grow a profitable private practice, whilst still making a positive impact on the wellness of others. She is an avid advocate for her profession and was appointed as the chairperson of the newly formed Private Practice Committee of the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa from 2021 to 2023. Tasneem is also a 2023 recipient of the globally recognized Woman of Wonder Awards in recognition of her contribution to the health and wellness industry.

She ran the first diagnostic sleep laboratory in South Africa from 1990 to 1998. After joining Wits University, she was head of the Wits Dial.a.Bed Sleep Laboratory in the School of Physiology for 10 years. She was the founding chairperson of the Sleep Society of South Africa in 1996 and served two terms representing Africa on the governing council of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM). Her interest in research on sleep has seen her supervise more than 20 Masters and 3 PhD students on various topics. She has published articles on sleep and sleep disorders both in the lay media and peer reviewed scientific journals throughout that period leading to over 30 published articles and two book chapters. She has presented over 40 formal invited presentations at conferences ranging from the International Paediatrics conference and World Association of Sleep Medicine to local conferences such as SA Thoracic Society and PainSA. Prof Rajen Morar Clinical Head: Pulmonology at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital SESSION 1: 09:00 - 09:30 Topic: Overview of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) with focus on Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Prof Rajen Morar obtained his MB ChB from the University of Natal in 1984 and completed his internship at Hillbrow Hospital and senior house officer training at Baragwanath Hospital, in medicine. He completed his registrarship at Hillbrow Hospital and qualified as a specialist physician in 1990. He was awarded the Solly Lopis prize for his MMed degree. He trained as a pulmonologist under Dr Anthony Promnitz and Prof Charles Feldman, and registered as a pulmonologist in 2004. He received the AstraZeneca Scholarship Research Grant in 1991 and 2004. He was a recipient of the prestigious Fogarty Fellowship International Clinical Research Scholarship, National Institutes of Health, in 2001, and completed the intensive course on epidemiology and research methodology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York. He was appointed professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2003. He recently completed his PhD entitled ‘Clinical and immunopathogenetic aspects of sarcoidosis’. Prof. Morar is currently the clinical head of pulmonology at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. He is also a senior consultant in the multidisciplinary intensive care unit. His research interests include interstitial lung disease, community-acquired pneumonia, interventional pulmonology, brachytherapy for lung cancer and sepsis.
