Hadeia Amiry, is a Senior Fellow (NR) at the Center for a New American Security. Amiry is a diplomacy, foreign policy, national security and economic development expert. She is also a dedicated professional with academic achievements, think tank and advocacy for human rights and women's empowerment.

Prior to her current role, Amiry served as the Director of Congressional Affairs and Political Counselor at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C. where she led and strengthened Afghanistan’s outreach portfolio in to the US Congress and demonstrated her diplomatic prowess and political acumen in the complex landscape of international relations. In her role as the Special Adviser to the National Security Advisor to the President of Afghanistan 2018-2020, Amiry provided valuable insights into national security matters, shaping policies and strategies contributing to the development of Afghanistan’s international relations.

Amiry also served as the Deputy Director General of the Americas, Australia, and New Zealand Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, and the head of Economic and Development Department 2013-2016 at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C. She oversaw the aid policy portfolio, and analyzed the U.S. policy and relations with South and Central Asia.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Amiry is a staunch advocate for human rights and women's rights. Amiry recently testified before the Committee on Foreign Relations of the US Congress on the dire situation of Afghan women and girls under the Taliban regime and highlighted the urgent need for international support and advocacy. She also led a program to share her knowledge and experiences on CSOs collective advocacy and grassroots mobilization to the women’s rights activists from over 64 countries around the world.

Amiry began her professional journey as a career diplomat and continued to work in different roles and into leading a NGO for women’s rights and economic empowerment.

Amiry holds MA in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University, and another MA in International Relations, Diplomacy, and Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Amiry received certificates from Harvard University on Counter-terrorism, from the Near East South Asia Center (NESA) on Regional Diplomacy, from École Nationale d'Administration-Paris on Terrorism as Threat to Global Security, and from Clingendael Institute of International Relations- The Hague, on the International Relations and diplomatic skills building.
