Event Details

In this class students will learn how to use traditional woodworking equipment to square up rough sawn lumber.

In the process, students will learn terminology related to wood anatomy (long grain vs. end grain, knots, hardwood vs. softwood) and basic woodworking manufacturing supply chains (dimensional lumber vs. dressed lumber).

They will also learn all the names and safe operation of equipment in the woodshop (powered stationary, powered hand tools and manual tools) excluding the CNC router, table router and the lathe.

Attendance at both sessions is mandatory.

I grew up in Colchester and attended UVM for Business Administration. During that time I discovered the Generator and a love for making and designing. What I love most about making is finding where art and utility can combine into something greater than the sum of its parts. My current project is a sound system that integrates laser-cut art into its functional design. You can find me in the woodshop, on the laser cutters, and in the electronics lab making these speakers to sell at the BTV Market. I currently work as a CAD designer and Production Maker at Conant Metal & Light. When I'm not making at Conant or the Generator I love playing disc golf and board games, surfing, and doing anything that gets me in the water.
