Analytics Scholarship for 30,000 |

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), in partnership with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP) and Coursebank will train 30,000 individuals on Analytics.
This is made possible under Smarter Philippines through Data Science and Analytics, R&D, Training and Adoption (SPARTA). Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said the program will run for three years, with a total budget of PHP50.84 million.
Generated data from both public and private sector continuous to grow exponentially, and the emergence of smart city initiatives across the country will further fuel this growth as new data sources become available.
There is a foreseen demand of data science and analytics workers in the Philippines both for local and global markets. APEC estimates 340,880 data science and analytics (DSA) workers will be needed in the Philippines by 2022.
“We have designated DAP in carrying out this training to build competency in data analytics,” he said in an interview.
The program will be launched next week and interested members of AAP can sign up now and get updates using this Project SPARTA application guide via the association's Facebook page.
SPARTA was launched in order to put in place the necessary online education, research and development mechanisms and infrastructure to not only enables the industry of data science and analytics but also to advance smart governance practices. |

CBSI Inks Partnership with UA&P on Data Analytics |

Concepcion Business Services, Inc. (CBSI), the Shared Services arm of Concepcion Industrial Corporation (CIC) officially inked partnership with the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that warrants both parties to collaborate on various digital analytics projects. Present during the signing ceremony were Dr. Richard Parcia, CBSI President and Chief Information Officer of CIC and Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog, President of UA&P. The partnership will primarily work on developing business cases and workshops for the Master’s in Applied Business Analytics (MABA) Program, the pioneer graduate program on Data Analytics in the Philippines.
CBSI has always been attuned to the industry’s ever-changing business landscape and has constantly strived to serve its partners with appropriate services. Thus, with the emergence of Data Analytics in businesses and the need to embrace technology to gain a competitive advantage, a new team, BEACON, was formed to focus on Data Analytics. BEACON is tasked to harness the company’s vast pool of data and process it to become useful business insights for the company. However, to ensure sustainability of the program and relevance to the current trends in Data Analytics, BEACON initiated to forge a partnership with UA&P, a reputable university and an emerging data analytics center of excellence in the country. |

Dr. Parcia, during his speech, said that for Data Analytics to fulfill its promises, it is important that we teach people that it is accessible to everyone. He emphasized how Analytics can help our society. “Analytics, and by large, Data Science, to be relevant must be a catalyst for exploration and trigger that sense of wonder of what our society is and should be. It has to be positioned with a purpose that the ultimate beneficiary and with common good in mind… this field with the right frame of purpose can do wonders for a lot of people. We want this partnership to ensure that data can serve the society.” he added.
The ceremonial signing of the MOU was held at the UA&P campus in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. It was witnessed by Ms. Jemain Diaz de Rivera, Executive Director of Analytics Association of the Philippines, along with Dr. Amado Saquido, Vice President of UA&P’s Academic Affairs Office, Dr. Brenda Quismorio, Program Director of MABA, Mr. Joseph Juatco, Head of BEACON, and Ms. Katryn Ronquillo and Engr. AAP & FPH Harnessing the Power of Analytics |

The Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP) and the Fintech Philippines Association jointly held its monthly meetup to discuss how to Harness the Power of Analytics. It was an evening of interaction where members learned from our panel of experts: President of AAP Colin Christie; Senior Digital Financial Services Adviser at Digital Finance Advisory Services John Owens; Chairman of the Industry Development Committee at AAP Monchito Ibrahim; Executive Director of Fintech Philippines Association Amor Maclang, Executive Director of SeedIn Technology Edison Tsai and Principal Consultant Joven Tapiador.
The evening was capped by networking with fellow members of both associations. Hot topics included AAP Roadmap for 2020, Industry Sandbox Launch, Ateneo Fintech Program Launch, China Study Tour, and Industry Updates.

First General Membership Meeting |

The 4th Quarter General Membership Meeting (GMM) ala Christmas and Holiday celebration was successfully held last month at The Study by Enderun in Estancia Mall, Pasig City. That evening 14 corporations and 27 individuals were inducted as new members.
AAP president, Colin Christie reported on the initiatives and accomplishments for 2019. This was followed by the presentation of each committee head leading to members signing up to be part of their choice committees. The AAP committees are Insights chaired by Sherwin Pelayo and Michelle Alarcon, Professional Development & Education chaired by Eugene Rex Jalao and Brenda Quismorio, Industry Development chaired by Monchito Ibrahim, Smart Cities & Innovation chaired by Alejandro Melchor III, External Relations & Community Development chaired by Colin Christie, and Membership chaired by Jemain Diaz de Rivera.
