It's been a busy few months for Britcham Cambodia and with continuing restrictions on group gatherings most of our activities have been online. 

The Cambodian vaccination drive continues to be hugely successful with 72% of adults now fully vaxed, rising to 100% in Phnom Penh. COVID vaccinations are now being extended to 12-17 year olds and 50% have already received their first dose, making Cambodia one of the fastest vaccinating country in the world.

UK DONATES 415,000 ASTRAZENECA COVID-19 VACCINES TO CAMBODIA THROUGH A BILATERAL AGREEMENT
 • As part of the UK's pledge of nine million vaccines to be donated bilaterally and offered to COVAX to help tackle Covid-19 abroad, 415,000 of those vaccines have arrived in Cambodia 

• The UK has pledged to donate 100 million vaccines overseas by June 2022, 80 million of which will go to COVAX

UK Foreign Secretary visits Cambodia to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation on global challenges
UK Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab visited Cambodia today on Wednesday 23 June) to forge deeper bilateral ties between the UK and Cambodia.

In his first visit to Cambodia, the UK Foreign Secretary met H.E Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, to set out the UK’s ambition for the UK to become an ‘ASEAN Dialogue Partner’, ahead of Cambodia taking up the Chair of ASEAN in 2022.

Dominic Raab also met Environment Minister H.E Say Sam Al to discuss climate change and Cambodia’s COP26 aspirations.

Speaking ahead of his first visit to Cambodia, Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, said: “This year marks 30 years since the UK reopened our Embassy in Cambodia and I am struck by the progress the country has made from its thriving business’ to standards of education and healthcare. “I look forward to building on these foundations, as Cambodia takes on the important role of ASEAN Chair next year”.

ASEAN Dialogue Partnership would allow the UK to further strengthen relations with ASEAN countries, based on shared interests, constructive engagements, and mutual benefits, which can contribute to ASEAN’s Community building and development cooperation efforts.

Consultation description:
We want to know what you think about proposed changes to the UK’s trade preference scheme. This is currently known as the UK Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).
In particular, we want to hear your views on:
  • rules of origin requirements for least developed countries (LDCs)
  • reducing tariffs for low income and lower-middle income countries
  • the approach to goods graduation, which suspends reduced rates on some goods
  • the conditions and reporting requirements for low or lower-middle income countries
The new UK preferences scheme (the Developing Countries Trading Scheme) will take effect in 2022.
