Malaysia Climate Action Week: A.C.T. Now Before It Is Too Late!
Extreme weather patterns continue to wreck havoc in different parts of the world throughout 2022. The UK recorded highest temperatures as the 40°C mark was broken for the first time in July 2022, with the country facing extreme heat and drought throughout summer. Other countries in Europe, China and the US have encountered extreme heatwaves, searing temperatures, drought and flash floods. In Australia and New Zealand, both countries have suffered some of the worst floods in recent years.
Such extreme weather events have increased in frequency and intensity globally, thus impacting the lives and livelihood of millions of people. Not only the human population, but other life forms on earth are facing alarming consequences due to rising global average temperature and rapid global warming.
Without urgent actions to address the climate crisis, it will further aggravate social, economic and environmental threats. Only with our collective efforts can we overcome the adverse impacts of climate change and secure a sustainable future for all.
With that in mind, the BMCC is hoping to increase awareness and inspire change among its members with the return of the Malaysia Climate Action Week from 17 to 21 October 2022. Building on the success of the Chamber's inaugural programme in 2021, this year's Malaysia Climate Action Week themed "A.C.T. Now! Adapt, Collaborate and Transcend" aims to inspire companies to take action and work together in overcoming the impacts of climate change by getting involved in more hands-on experiences. To revisit the 2021 Malaysia Climate Action Week, please click here.
More interesting events and activities are scheduled throughout the five-day programme to reach out to an even wider group of people. Participate in a conference, roundtable discussion or sustainability workshop. Take part in a Green competition dedicated to students. Get involved in a film screening, go on an eco-site visit, take a walk into a forest at night or plant a tree. All these and more await you!
During last year's Malaysia Climate Action Week, the Chamber also launched the BMCC Climate Action Pledge and garnered 29 organisations to sign up to either take initial steps on climate action or to support other organisations through their knowledge and solutions. We hope that more organisations will come on board and sign the Pledge this year, as well as to inspire existing Pledge signatories to further their climate commitments. For more information on the BMCC Pledge, please refer here.
The Chamber is also inviting BMCC members to come on board as our Climate Action Partners and be a part of this exciting programme to create a positive impact by businesses across industries and participation from the wider society.
Please contact Roufizah Razali at roufizah@bmcc.org.my if you are interested to become our Climate Action Partner. |
