The Minerals Security Partnership Forum (MSP Forum) launched in April 2024, aims to establish a global cooperation platform focused on green and digital transitions in critical raw materials (CRMs). This initiative is vital for promoting sustainable innovation and advancing technologies. Supporting these global efforts is the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, which underscores the European Union's commitment to clean and green manufacturing technologies. This legislative framework aims to secure a sustainable CRM supply crucial for achieving green and digital transitions, highlighting the EU's proactive stance in addressing global supply chain challenges.
In the Philippines, the government is making significant strides in tapping the underutilized potential of its mining sector. On May 2024, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) emphasized the importance of the mining sector in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, which outlines strategies to increase value addition in the mineral industry, ensure macroeconomic stability, and accelerate climate action. Additionally, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) identified opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in minerals processing during the Second Joint Economic Commission (JEC) between the Philippines and Germany on March 27.
In our upcoming committee meeting, we explore opportunities for responsible mineral supply chains. This event will delve into the progress and strategies of the MSP Forum and the Philippine government's initiatives, fostering international partnerships to enhance the mining sector's contribution to economic development. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how these collaborative efforts can create sustainable and resilient supply chains for critical raw materials, essential for driving global green and digital transformations.
