Mobile Money continues to reach new heights, playing a vital role in financial inclusion. A major milestone was achieved in 2019 when the number of registered mobile money accounts surpassed 1 billion!

"The mobile money industry of today has a host of seasoned providers with a broad set of operational capabilities, a full suite of products and a global reach. With 290 live services in 95 countries and 372 million active accounts, mobile money is entering the mainstream and becoming the path to financial inclusion in most low-income countries" – states the GSM Association's (GSMA) State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2019.

GSMA also reported that "Mobile money agents have 7x more reach than ATMs and 20x more reach than bank branches."

COVID-19 has not only accelerated the digitalisation of payments but also drives the innovation towards financial inclusion.
