Why Circular Economy?

Beginning in January 2018, China banned the import of most of the world's recyclable plastics. However, Western countries turned to Southeast Asia, causing Southeast Asia to become a dumping ground for plastic waste in other countries. In Malaysia, it is also caused by the problems caused by waste plastics, such as environmental pollution and even human health injury. The government has imposed an import ban on plastic waste, but due to the implementation of illegal plastic recycling factories, the rise of illegal plastic recycling factories requires further legislation.

In October 2019, Malaysian Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said that Malaysia just launched The White Paper on " AN ADVANCED PLASTICS RECYCLING INDUSTRY FOR MALAYSIA " in order to provide guidelines for plastic recycling and subsequently empower the local plastics industry. MP Che Vice President CC Cheah pointed out that Malaysia needs an advanced modern plastic recycling industry to develop into a sustainable economy, and he also said that "plastic recyclers may contribute three to four times to the Malaysian economy, estimated to reach 15 billion to 20 billion ringgit and increased investment in better technology, infrastructure and capacity enhancement, " Malaysia is also considered to play the most important role as a leader in the circular economy in the ASEAN region.
