COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT
Come join us at the AUSTIN CREATIVE REUSE CENTER to make fleece dog blankets for local animal shelters and sorting/organizing arts & crafts donations to help our community.
Austin Creative Reuse started in 2009 when a group of like-minded individuals gathered to discuss creating a new, sustainable community organization. Our group was a mix of artists, art enthusiasts, teachers, marketers, and community experts. In 2011, we received our 501(c)3 nonprofit status and in 2015, we opened Austin's first creative reuse center.
At ACR's creative reuse center, you can let your imagination run wild and save the planet at the same time. Creative reuse keeps usable materials out of the landfill; saves the natural resources that would have been used to make those materials from new; reduces the climate impacts of waste disposal; improves access to affordable creative materials; and fosters creativity by asking folks to rethink "stuff."
To date, ACR has diverted more than one million pounds of usable creative materials from the landfill and hosted hundreds of workshops and community events to promote creative reuse. Our diversion rate is more than 99% meaning that we send less than 1% of the materials donations we receive in our center to the landfill.
Don't forget we are collecting donations throughout WIC Week for Central Texas Food Bank (non-perishable food items), Caritas of Austin (Hygiene products), Furrbaby Food Pantry (Pet Food or accessories such as pet beds, kennels, bowls, toys). Bring to this event.
