As Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation, Marie Therese Dominguez is at the forefront of New York’s efforts to modernize its infrastructure and provide a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system for all, while promoting growth and economic opportunity. At DOT she leads a team of over 8,520 professionals responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining a transportation system that encompasses more than 113,000 highway lane miles; 17,400 bridges; a 3,500-mile rail network; and hundreds of aviation facilities, seaports, and public transportation operators. She also helps coordinate New York’s statewide response for emergencies, including flooding and snow and ice storms. Since 2019 Dominguez has served as a Commissioner of the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) which is responsible for building the Hudson Tunnel Project, a comprehensive rail investment program that will improve reliability, resilience and redundancy while creating new capacity for a critical section of the Northeast Corridor by building two new rail tracks under the Hudson River and rehabilitating the existing North River Tunnel resulting in four modern tracks between New York and New Jersey. Dominguez also serves a Member of the Board of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSRDA).
She has worked in the transportation, water, and energy infrastructure sectors for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming NYS Transportation Commissioner in 2019, she was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Previously, she served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works overseeing policy and budget direction for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She has also served as Vice President of Government Relations for the United States Postal Service, Deputy Chief of Staff and Counsel to the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and Special Assistant to the Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. Ms. Dominguez obtained her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and her B.A. in American Studies from Smith College.
