Event Details

The conference will be a three-day conference scheduled for April 17th–19th, 2024. The objective is to create a platform for practitioners and experts from the insurance industry, business fraternity, government, and local and regional communities to interact and share experiences on the opportunities and challenges in the business ecosphere. The conference is expected to attract over 250 delegates.

The theme of the conference is "ADAPTING TO THE EVOLVING BUSINESS LANDSCAPE".

Focusing on the theme, the conference will provide a platform for different stakeholders to interrogate the developments in the geopolitical/economic space, human resources, regulation, and information technology as they affect the future of the insurance business and its correlation with other sectors.

Insurance players can no longer do business as usual while the landscape evolves. It is imperative to stay in tandem with the developed economies to effectively grow our own. As a developing nation with a majority of citizens being the younger generation, the need to impart leadership skills for future leaders stands at the forefront while embracing current technological trends, social issues, and climate change as key components of the ESG agenda.

The need to embrace the new regulatory requirements for the insurance fraternity cannot be overlooked. This residential conference will be held in Mbale as part of the outreach strategy to spread the insurance gospel across the country.

Deputy Principal at Insurance Training College (ITC)

Angela Ndunge is the Deputy Executive Education (East Africa) as well as a full-time lecturer in Organizational Behaviour and Leadership at Strathmore Business School (SBS). She holds an MSc in Work and Organisational Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Psychology from the University of Nottingham (UW). She is also a chartered member of the British Psychological Society.
Dr. Ndunge's areas of specialization are leadership development, managing people
and social influence at work, occupational health and safety, training in organizations, workplace assessment and testing, workplace counseling and career development, and work-related mental health. She is an experienced trainer and has facilitated numerous leadership programs for executives across Africa. She has also been involved in the design and implementation of numerous customized programs for several companies, such as Absa Bank, Safaricom, Simba Corp., WCB Bank, Kenya Revenue Authority, Strathmore University, SANLAM, Nation Media Group, Isuzu Kenya among others. Additionally, she is an experienced mental health practitioner.
Her research interest is mainly in organizational psychology. She is currently the Principal Investigator for a grant worth $3,200,000 awarded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to support religious social ministries run by Catholic sisters into sustainable social enterprises in Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for a period of 3 years (2022-2024). Additionally, she is also the Principal Investigator for a research grant worth $989,439.00 granted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The aim of the research is to advance women's leadership in the Kenyan health sector through organizational and systemic change efforts.
Dr. Ndunge has held several leadership roles in the business school. She served as the Director of Faculty Affairs, Vice Dean-Executive Talent Development, and Deputy Executive Dean at Strathmore Business School, where she was in charge of driving the Executive Education Strategy and expansion of SBS in East and Southern Africa. In addition to her administrative roles, she is also the academic director of the Senior Managers Leadership Program (SMLP), as well as the course leader of the Advance Management Program (AMP).
Dr. Ndunge is also the Board Chair of St. Patrick Primary School and St. Patrick Girls School Mbiuni, Machakos County, and also serves as a member of the Human Resources Committee of the Management Board of Strathmore University.

Sylvia has over 20 years of work experience in academic
administration & management obtained while serving in both the education & insurance sectors.
As the Deputy Principal at ITC, she supports the Principal/CEO in steering the College towards
achieving its vision & mission through the key functions of Strategic Planning, Executive
Leadership, Policy & Stakeholder Management.
Sylvia has a strong background in higher education administration and holds a Master’s degree
in Management Studies with a bias in Human Resource Management from the Uganda
Management Institute, a Bachelor of Science degree from Makerere University and several
trainings in higher education, quality assurance, strategic leadership, and insurance. She also
holds a professional Diploma in Insurance qualification from the College of Insurance, Nairobi
and is an Associate member of both ITC and IIK. She is also a member of Women In Insurance
(WIN) in Uganda.
Before joining ITC in 2015 as the Head of Examinations, Sylvia previously worked with Uganda
Christian University for 15 years, where she served up to the level of Academic Registrar. She is
a strong believer in servant leadership that empowers a team through which organizational
growth and success is achieved.
She is also a wife, and a mother to five wonderful children.
