The average tenure rate for CEOs of S&P500 companies have been falling โ€“ from 10 years is 2000, to 8.4 years in 2011, to 7.2 years today. In fact, 48% of these global CEOs have been on the job for five years or less. So while the pay and the prestige of a CEO is great, the position has never been shakier. Many CEOs think that this will not happen to them, but the accumulated research suggests otherwise.
