Event Details

PCFR in partnership with the Melikian Center at ASU invites you to an evening program with Ambassador Ilir Dugolli, the Ambassador of Kosovo to the United States. Kosovo, the youngest European country, is an example of successful nation-building, thanks to the support of international allies and institutional investments. Ambassador Dugolli will discuss the legacies of the Kosovo war and path to independence, as well as broader geopolitical implications in today's world. Following Ambassador Dugolli's keynote, he will be joined by Professor Visar Berisha from ASU's College of Engineering and College of Health Solutions for a moderated Q&A.

Get ready for a fascinating journey into the complexities of international relations, with a special focus on Kosovo and its dynamic interactions with the world!

Hors d'oeuvres and bar will be provided.

Why is this important for Arizona?

During the Kosovo war in 1999, Arizona opened its doors to refugees from the region, resulting in a large number of Kosovars settling in the state. The Kosovar diaspora has since made significant contributions to the Arizona economy and workforce. This program showcases the U.S.'s international involvement in bringing together allies under NATO and working collaboratively with international partners to help Kosovo build a successful nation.

Arizona's diverse population, military presence, and economic interests make this program an excellent opportunity to provide educational, cultural, and economic benefits to the community. It also promotes a sense of global responsibility and highlights the importance of working together to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity.

    Visar Berisha, Ph.D.

Professor, College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University

Visar Berisha joined Arizona State University in 2013 as an assistant professor with a joint appointment in the College of Health Solutions in speech and hearing sciences and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The overarching goal of his research is to develop and apply new machine learning and statistical signal processing tools to better understand and model signal perception. With a focus on speech, the goal is to develop reliable, data-driven models that can mimic aspects of human cognition. Some recent projects include developing models of pathological speech perception, developing auditory perception models based on psychoacoustics, and developing new machine learning tools for use with behavioral experiments. Making progress against these goals requires an interdisciplinary approach that spans multiple fields. Visar's contributions to this effort are centered on developing computational models guided by collected behavioral data.
