EuroCham Laos invites you to our upcoming Breakfast Talk titled, "Re-igniting the Plastic-Free Laos Initiative – Let's Make a Positive Change Together!" This exciting event will take place from 8:45 AM to 10:30 AM at Lanxang 2, Crowne Plaza Vientiane, in collaboration with Econox and the Waste to Value project.
The Earth was not designed to digest plastic.
Expanded foam and petroleum-based plastics do not decompose in the same way as organic material. Unlike wood, grass, and food waste, these plastics undergo a process called photodegradation, which is essentially sunlight breaking the plastic into a myriad of tiny pieces over time.
The Plastic-Free Laos members from the hospitality industry are leading the way in reducing single-use plastic waste – backed by proof, training, audits, and support. The Plastic-Free Laos label, a certification established to encourage and recognise the reduction of single-use plastic in operation and service, is a pivotal step towards our sustainable future. Managed and implemented by Econox Laos and coordinated by the Small and Medium Enterprise Service Centre in collaboration with the Lao Hotel and Restaurant Association, the label's primary goal is to reduce plastic waste in the Lao PDR.
Beyond certification, the Plastic-Free Laos label offers comprehensive education, tools, and support during the certification process. The members, currently across Vientiane Capital, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang, have significantly contributed to the plastic reduction efforts and PFL is looking forward to extending these efforts across the entire country.
