Shifting Perspectives

Rethinking Language Beliefs and Policies in International Schools

As international schools become more diverse, traditional models that prioritize English over multilingualism are being challenged. How can school leaders foster an environment that truly values linguistic diversity? This session invites participants into a conversation about how educators' beliefs shape instruction, student experiences, and school policies. Drawing on current research and examples from international schools, we will explore strategies for creating inclusive, research-aligned language policies that reflect the values of multilingual communities. Attendees will engage in a thoughtful discussion on the challenges and opportunities of shifting towards a more holistic approach to language in education.

Join Samantha Olson-Wyman and Esther Bettney Heidt to share insights, reflect on evolving perspectives, and consider practical ways to support multilingual learners in international schools.
