Full Harvest is solving the massive food waste problem as the first business-to-business online marketplace for imperfect and surplus produce. Currently, food waste is the #1 contributor towards climate change. At the same time, one-third of all edible produce is wasted on U.S. farms alone simply because it is excess or not perfect-looking for grocery stores.

Through its online marketplace, the company helps growers capture new revenue opportunities by connecting them directly with processors and food and beverage brands who benefit from sourcing sustainable produce. They are creating value along the entire supply chain by lowering healthy food production costs, significantly reducing wasted food and resources, while also bringing farmers an additional revenue stream. A win-win-win for farmers, food companies and the planet.

Full Harvest is backed by a group of top investors, including Spark Capital and Cultivian Sandbox Ventures. Full Harvest was recently recognized as a World Economic Forum Tech Pioneer, a Fast Company World Changing Ideas Award winner, and one of Forbes’ Most Innovative Agtech Startups. You can learn more at www.fullharvest.com and on their Press & Blog pages.

We produce nutritionally equivalent breastmilk from cultured human mammary cells. With BIOMILQ, families can achieve the recommended 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding while alleviating the climate impacts of bovine-based infant formula.

Today, we know that 8 in 10 moms stop breastfeeding before the recommended six months. Given formula's inadequate nutritional composition, this collectively translates to an estimated $285B in cognitive loss globally.
More, each child fed exclusively formula adds 3000 metric tons of CO2e and uses 80 tons of freshwater. Given infant formula already accounts for 10 - 20% of dairy production, 3.8M babies are born in the US annually, and 130M babies are born globally, our natural resources and climate cannot sustainably bear this burden.

BIOMILQ is creating a better infant nutrition alternative so moms can feel confident providing whole nutrition for their babies with less negative on the environment.

Plantible Foods
Plantible Foods has developed a vertically integrated system (patent pending) that produces a plant-based protein ingredient that can replace myosin, egg whites, whey and/or casein in food and beverage applications. The protein, named Rubi Protein (RuBisCO), has a better organoleptic and functional profile than any of the plant-based proteins currently being commercialized. Our production system is 100x more sustainable than soy and climate change proof, enabling the company to produce 24/7/365.

Digestiva
Rather than improving food system efficiency, we are focused on improving digestion efficiency. Rather than improving food system efficiency, we are focused on improving digestion efficiency. Half of you reading this today will not completely digest and absorb the protein you consume, leading to residual protein fermenting in your large intestine, with undesired consequences. The problem is even worse if you are bed-ridden, elderly, or live in an area with a preponderance of indigestible protein sources, causing muscle wasting in the old and infirm, and stunting in over 5 million disadvantaged children. A startup based in Sacramento, we are using a novel class of enzymes that are only active in the stomach and assist your natural digestion to improve amino acid bioavailability from the protein you consume. Using in-depth structure/function analysis of thousands of enzyme candidates coupled to machine learning, we can design new enzymes to improve protein digestion. In essence, by improving the efficiency of digestion, we can cost-effectively improve your health and the efficiency of the food supply.

Panel moderated by Joe Zhou of Bits x Bites and Howard Chao, with Jianming Guo of iCan Agriculture, James Mendenhall of Sidley Austin and Jijun Zou of Citic Agri Fund

- Key forces that have been shaping China’s food supply chain: fragmented animal production, soil pollution, risks of reliance on food imports, opportunities to improve input-output efficiency, food-borne diseases that can be curbed by advancing novel functional ingredients, and plant-based initiatives that reduce fat, sugar, and salt.

- How Covid spotlights the challenges in the supply chain: challenges in international and domestic logistics, a strengthened government commitment for self-sufficient food production, consumer demand for immunity and dietary health solutions

- Some examples of agrifood technology solutions set to benefit in this new reality.

Panel discussion (Panelists to be announced)

China’s supply chain is fraught with systematic challenges that could benefit from agrifood tech solutions. So how is the agrifood tech ecosystem developing in China? What is the government’s role in advancing development for technologies such as GMO, soil data analytics and cellular agriculture? What are the opportunities and challenges for US companies and investors to tap into the opportunity as China’s agrifood develops?
