Overview

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

We're delighted that we will host the program for our 12th annual AgTech and FoodTech Workshops on May 14 and 15, in Pescadero California at the beautiful TomKat Ranch!

TomKat Ranch Educational Foundation is a regenerative ranch dedicated to sustainable land stewardship, climate-friendly agriculture, and food system education. The ranch serves as a living laboratory, sharing insights with ranchers, policymakers, and food system leaders to create a more resilient future. We're thrilled to host this event at TomKat and look forward to gathering in this beautiful setting.

However, do not fear! We will not be leaving Bonny Doon. On the first night we will be shuttling attendees to my home in Bonny Doon for a reception and hearty feast.

Please mark your calendars and Save the Date for AgTech 12 on May 14th, 2025! If you'd like to join us for the FoodTech 12 Workshop the following day, May 15th, we have a discounted 2-day ticket option available on either website.Register Now!

Our Workshops are our flagship events, and this year they will be a little bigger as we (carefully) grow our community. Together, we'll explore a broad range of issues through discussion panels, Something on My Mind (SOMM) Sessions and startup presentations, lead by top investors, corporates, entrepreneurs and technologists.

Several things will be different this year. First, in addition to early stage start ups, we hope to bring into the conversation more growth-stage companies and their investors. We want to showcase many of the success stories in the sector and include the investors who are supporting them.

As you may know, most of our programming is now initiated by key members of our community in "Something On My Mind" (SOMM) Sessions. These are 15 minute mini-sessions where prominent folks in the industry present an interesting problem, hypothesis, new technology or trend they'd like to share. Our goal is to catalyze conversations that continue after we part ways. SOMM sessions force us all to be concise and we cover a lot of ground with them.

As usual, we will be inviting 8 top startups and growth companies to share their stories at the Workshop.

This is going to be a very full day. Hope to see you in Pescadero soon!

Warm Regards,

Howard Chao

Company Presentations

Agrofocal

Agrofocal is building a crop monitoring system that is easy to mount on any farm vehicle and that provides insights on yield and crop health in real time. These insights will enable farmers to make informed decisions that will increase production, reduce costs, and lessen environmental impact.

Agscent

Agscent Pty Ltd is a a bio/agritech company founded on farm in regional NSW, Australia, pioneering breath-based livestock diagnostics. We are set to revolutionize pregnancy testing, disease diagnostics and methane measurement with an affordable, cutting-edge nanotechnology platform.

With reproductive management being one of the most important economic variables in livestock production, Agscent's technology is initially focused on reproduction. Agscent has developed a non-invasive, rapid, cost-effective and easy to use breath diagnostic device for the primary producer sector. This technology will improve breeding productivity for primary producers and provide a safer option for pregnancy testing.

Alpine Bio

Alpine Bio is pioneering molecular farmingโ€”using plants as living bioreactors to produce high-value proteins at unmatched scale, cost, and sustainability. By engineering crops to express complex proteins traditionally made via fermentation or extracted from animals, Alpine Bio is establishing molecular farming as the third pillar of biomanufacturing, alongside microbial fermentation and cell culture.

BioBond Adhesives

BioBond is a materials technology startup developing next generation, cost-effective, high-performance, USA made plant-based adhesives and protective coatings for the packaging, construction, automotive, textiles, furniture, marine and aerospace markets.

Carboniferous

Carboniferous is a carbon dioxide removal company (CDR) that uses crop residues to sequester carbon. Carboniferous has demonstrated our unique CDR pathway, which leverages anoxic and hypersaline conditions, to give value for otherwise discarded agricultural wastes.

Heritable Agriculture

Born at Google X, Alphabet's Moonshot Factory, Heritable Agriculture's focus is to expand opportunities in agriculture by leveraging the latest in artificial intelligence and gene editing. After 5 years honing our technologies at Google, we are now proud to be an independent entity.

Our products bring the best of AI to agriculture.

Whether your needs are phenotype prediction, causal gene identification, or the design of effective genome edits, our technology provides unprecedented accuracy and resolution.

PhytoGenesis

Based on 20 years of work at the University of Kentucky and $11M in grants to bring it to commercial readiness, PhytoGenesis is a fundamentally different solution for protecting the world's crops from fast-evolving pathogens. For Ag investors, the biocontrol market is structurally problematic because a product that works in potatoes doesn't then work for corn or fresh produce. Each crop and pathogen needs its own solution, limiting upside.

PhytoGenesis' product, PreviSAR, is a single biobased solution for all crops. It primes an innate defense pathway native to all plants called Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR). It only needs to be applied once per season, and when applied to any leaf, it spreads through the whole plant. The result is a very meaningful savings to the farmer. PreviSAR can also be combined with existing crop protection products, be they bio or chemical.

Vivid Machines

Vivid Machines is at the forefront of AI-powered solutions that help orchards and vineyards precisely manage crops and accurately forecast yields to reduce labor and increase quality production.

Using AI cameras that mount onto farm equipment, the Vivid XV3 inspects every tree or vine in real-time, providing insights on buds, blossoms and fruit, while also detecting diseases and analyzing canopy health. Growers and their equipment get the insights they need to precisely prune, thin, irrigate and fertilize to optimize crop yield while reducing labor.

4AG Robotics

4AG builds robots that pick, trim, and pack mushrooms with the overarching goal of providing farmers with robotics solutions to fully automate their current farming operations and consistently deliver great quality, yield, and value.

Logistics

We are recommending that all attendees book their lodging in Half Moon Bay, CA, which is about 20 minutes from TomKat Ranch (Pescadero, CA) and is the closest town to it.

We will provide shuttle transportation to/from the Half Moon Bay hotels listed below, to the venue, each day.

We will also provide shuttle transportation from TomKat Ranch to Bonny Doon for our intimate reception and dinner on May 14th.
