Investment in nature for a resilient economy
Two interconnected and chronically underfunded areas in the current market are investment in nature and investment in adaption and resilience. Investing in nature can be a highly effective resilience measure in the face of climate change. Investment in natural capital and Nature Based solutions provide benefits including boosting biodiversity, sequestering carbon and making communities more resilient. Nature Based Solutions (NBS) which integrate natural processes and ecosystem services in the design process of infrastructure are a cost-effective measure to improve the resilience of built environments.
Speakers: - Davina Rooney (CEO, Green Building Council of Australia) - Jurre Smits (Regional Head of Sustainable Finance and Food System Transitions at Rabobank Australia & New Zealand) - Sean Appoo (Program Manager, Aboriginal Carbon Foundation) - Cherie Gray (Global Lead, Sustainability & Market Development, SwissRe) - Moderator: Emily Simso (Manager, Sustainability and Impact at New Forests)

Unlocking finance to decarbonise Australia and the region – the role of policy
The Global Stocktake released at last year’s COP28 revealed we are not on track to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and the window for meaningful change is quickly closing. At the same time, Australia has ambitions to become a renewable superpower and is rapidly progressing its sustainable finance agenda as part of Future Made in Australia. This session will unpack the policy settings required to support capital for decarbonisation, and how Australia can be an international ‘leader’ on sustainable finance.
Speakers: - Guy Debelle (Former Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of Australia and Co-chair of the Taxonomy Technical Expert Group) - Luke Yeaman (Deputy Secretary, Commonwealth Treasury) - Rebecca Blurton (Director, First Nations Affairs) - Nathan Fabian (Chief Sustainable Systems Officer, Principles for Responsible Investment) - Moderator: Nicole Yazbek-Martin (Head of Taxonomy and Natural Capital, ASFI)
