Event Details
The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) is pleased to invite you to attend a briefing on the Australian sustainable finance taxonomy tailored specifically for the finance sector.
Guy Debelle, Co-chair of the Taxonomy Technical Expert Group will provide opening remarks. Nicole Yazbek-Martin, ASFI's Head of Taxonomy and Natural Capital, and Matteo Bigoni, Head of Taxonomies at the Climate Bonds Initiative will then present on the development of the Australian taxonomy and the work currently out for public consultation, focusing on its relevance to the finance sector. There will also be extended time for Q&A.
The Australian taxonomy, which is being developed by ASFI in partnership with the Commonwealth Treasury, will provide common, consistent, and scientifically rigorous definitions for green and transition finance in Australia, helping to accelerate the allocation of capital towards sustainable activities that achieve Australia's net-zero ambitions.
ASFI commenced the first round of public consultation on the Australian sustainable finance taxonomy on 28 May, through which it is seeking feedback on:
- the proposed activities and draft substantive climate change mitigation criteria for the following three economic sectors: electricity generation and storage; minerals, mining and metals; and the built environment; and
- the draft headline ambitions for the Australian taxonomy's environmental objectives.
The first round of public consultation closes 30 June. More information is available here: https://www.asfi.org.au/taxonomy-public-consultation.
