Becoming an Enterprising Family that Lasts Forever
by Prof. Randel S. Carlock and Keng-Fun Loh
The Enterprising Family Mindset and Model is a new 21st century paradigm developed by Prof. Carlock for strategy and leadership planning for families who work together. It builds on the Parallel Planning Process1 giving the family the technical planning tools but equally important, it proposes new Growth, Collective and Entrepreneurial Mindsets that support talent development, working together, and entrepreneurial strategies. The interaction of the social and the technical thinking and behaving provides the energy to drive the family forward with new goals, thinking, and plans.
This experiential two-day workshop, based on more than 25 years of family enterprise thought-leadership and new innovations such as online 360 assessments, live coaching, and interactive learning activities, is designed for families of three to seven members so that you can do real work and develop or confirm your family values, your family vision and create a family purpose. This is supported by looking at the external macro environment and identifying the opportunities and threats created by Social, Technical, Economic, Political and Planet (STEPP) forces. These five forces drive every aspect of the family and all of its activities into the future.
Additionally, we will build on the family's values, vision and purpose to start to craft the key elements of the strategic plan on Day Two. This plan will begin with a discussion of the current and 10-year genogram (a family relationship map) so that the family can use the future in 10 years as their base for developing their planning, actions and thinking. We will explore family dynamics, entrepreneurial tendencies, and governance, and how to integrate Fair Process into your family system to strengthen relationships and decision-making. Finally, we'll discuss leadershipโthe essential force for energizing your family to implement key activities and drive the enterprising family in the 21st century!
