These sessions are perfect for newer board members who are just starting in their new role, or board members seeking to refresh their skills. During these informative sessions, participants will gain essential insights into board governance, leadership responsibilities, and effective decision-making. They will also have the opportunity to learn from an experienced board member, Mick Warner, who has over 30 years of experience in the housing section. We are certain that this course will support a prospective board member's growth and success within their position.

The sessions of this course were derived from our Board Excellence Programme, but were refined and made shorter for participants who have less time on their hands, or who are unable to commit to the long term investment of the course.

What is this session about?

This session covers the role of the Board member in the social housing sector. It explains the Regulator of Social Housing's co-regulatory approach which places the responsibility on Board members for ensuring that registered providers are being managed effectively and meeting regulatory requirements. The session also draws on Nolan's seven principles of public life as well as the National Housing Federation's Code of Governance 2020 its Code of Conduct 2022. Whilst focussing mainly on good practice, the session also references examples of practices to avoid learning from problem cases in the social housing sector.
