PCFR invites you to a virtual discussion to explore BRICS and South Africa's interpretation of the current global order. The program will feature Gustavo de Carvalho, Senior Researcher at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
In September of 2023, the BRICS group โ an informal alliance among Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa โ announced that it would be expanding its ranks by including six new nations. These new members include Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. This expansion will link countries that represent approximately 30% of the global GDP and 43% of global oil production. Some speculate that this expansion may lead to BRICS rivaling the G7.
During this discussion, Gustavo de Carvalho, an expert in public policy, African governance, and diplomacy, will provide his insight on the future trajectory of BRICS, particularly in light of its expanding membership. Additionally, the discussion will explore the dialogues aimed at enhancing trade between member states by increasing the use of local currencies.
Join us for a professional exploration of BRICS' influence and South Africa's role in reshaping global power dynamics. Prepare your questions for the Q&A session!
