We are pleased to inform you that the next monthly membership meeting will be held on March 7, 2024 at 2 - 3 PM.

We encourage all members to come and participate in this meeting. Our guest speakers will be Donn Quintos and Gabi Del Rosario from the Alon & Araw Community.

Alon and Araw Club is a non-profit organization that harnesses the power of sports to engage youth in environmental conservation efforts. By empowering fisherfolk families to become ocean defenders, they have created a unique community that conducts weekly beach clean-ups and monthly plastic collections. What sets them apart is their dedication to not only segregating waste by category but also by specific plastic types or resin identification codes, making recycling much more efficient. Through their monthly plastic collection program, participants earn "reward points" that can be exchanged for essential goods like rice, canned goods, and powdered milk, which is crucial, especially during the typhoon season when fishing livelihoods are at risk. Alon and Araw's holistic approach extends beyond environmental advocacy to include personal growth, education, and sports, making the conservation process enjoyable, meaningful, and rewarding for individuals.

The impact of Alon and Araw's initiatives is evident in their success in diverting over 12,000 kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean. Partnering with organizations like Sentinel Upcycling Technologies, Plastic Bank, Precious Plastic Philippines, and Top Lun ensures that the collected plastic is recycled or upcycled, further contributing to environmental sustainability. By making conservation efforts not only beneficial but also fun and engaging, Alon and Araw Club has effectively mobilized communities to protect the environment while providing support and resources to those in need. Their innovative approach serves as a model for how sports, incentives, and community engagement can drive positive change and create a more sustainable future for all.
