Nelson Mandela famously said in 2000, at the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards: "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does."


John Dobson is Head Coach of the DHL Stormers and DHL WP Head Coach, winning the first Stormers international title when they won the United Rugby Championship in 2022 and made the final in 2023, also winning the South African shield the last two years.


Educated at Bishops at no charge as his father taught there, he then went on to UCT and achieved a BA, Llb, MBA, MA (creative writing) LLm. John started various sports magazines including SA Rugby and then an internet sports business called 365, Interalia publishers of Rugby365 (world's biggest rugby site) and Football365 and then sold to Sky. He has coached UCT to Varsity Cup with reasonable success. Finals 2008, 2010 and Technical director when they won in 2011. His coaching has seen wins of both the U21 Currie Cup Vodacom Cup, Currie cup Qualifiers, SuperSport Challenge and Currie Cup with WP.


John has published novels titled "Year of the Gherkin" and "Year of the Turnip". Don't miss this exciting Ubuntu business breakfast in person or virtually during Mandela month!
