Event Details

This course provides students with an overview of basic operation of the Laguna CNC router. Students are expected to have an understanding of Computer Aided Design (CAD). The training will begin with Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) within VCarve. Students will be guided through the processes programming the manufacturing process in CAM followed by step-by-step instruction for safe operation of the CNC router.

There will be a video presentation covering foundational concepts and history related to CNC technology, that students are required to watch prior to the first session. It will be sent with your registration confirmation. You'll need to be familiar with its content during a discussion at the first in-person session.

  • Session 1: Introduction to Digital Manufacturing - **Online Video - Pre-watch at home**
  • Session 2: VCarve: Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
  • Session 3: CAM Continued & Laguna SmartShop M Setup & Operation
  • Session 4: Laguna SmartShop M Setup & Operation Continued

Please note: this training has the prerequisite of the Wood Shop Training and therefore attendees will need to be approved by Generator to ensure they've previously taken the required training.

I grew up in Colchester and attended UVM for Business Administration. During that time I discovered the Generator and a love for making and designing. What I love most about making is finding where art and utility can combine into something greater than the sum of its parts. My current project is a sound system that integrates laser-cut art into its functional design. You can find me in the woodshop, on the laser cutters, and in the electronics lab making these speakers to sell at the BTV Market. I currently work as a CAD designer and Production Maker at Conant Metal & Light. When I'm not making at Conant or the Generator I love playing disc golf and board games, surfing, and doing anything that gets me in the water.
