Executive Director of Detroit 2030 District

Asia Dowtin is an Assistant Professor of Urban Forestry in Michigan State University’s Department of Forestry. Her research explores linkages between urban forest structure and ecosystem service provision, focusing largely on optimizing stormwater mitigation by urban canopy cover. Her work also investigates best practices for ensuring that advances in urban forestry research are adequately transferred to communities of practice, where they can be employed to ensure equitable access to benefits provided by urban trees. In addition to her research and teaching, Dowtin leads development and implementation of K-12 curriculum and workforce development programming designed to broaden participation in urban forestry. She holds a BS in Meteorology from State University of New York College at Oneonta, and earned an MS and PhD in Physical Geography from the University of Delaware.
