ASFI invites you to our webinar 'COP28 Debrief: Finance Sector Perspectives' on Thursday 21 December from 11:00am – 12:00pm AEDT to unpack the outcomes of this year's UNFCCC Conference of the Parties 'COP28'.


We are delighted to have Australia's Head of Climate Negotiations and Engagement, Dr Sally Box, join us again to give the official take on finance-related outcomes at COP28, along with special guests including Luke Brown, Head of Policy and Engagement at Climateworks Centre, Helga Birgden, Global Chair, Sustainable Investment at Mercer, and Georgina Dudley, CEO at JANA Investment Advisers.

    DCCEEW

    Dr Sally Box leads the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s branch responsible for international climate change negotiations and engagement and is Australia’s Head of Delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations. Prior to this role, Sally served as the Australian Government’s Threatened Species Commissioner, where she led the development and implementation of the Threatened Species Strategy and the environmental response to the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires. Sally has over 18 years’ experience working in the Australian Public Service in the fields of climate change and environment policy development, program delivery, regulation, and communications. She has a PhD in Plant Sciences from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Adelaide.

    Luke Brown

    Head of Policy and Engagement at Climateworks Centre

    Luke is Head of Policy and Engagement at Climateworks centre, drawing on his expertise in building and fostering strategic relationships across Asia and the Pacific. Luke is an experienced policy professional, specialising in stakeholder engagement, political and economic analysis, and communications and advocacy across cultural contexts.

    Prior to joining Climateworks, Luke spent 15 years in Government, including 12 years at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), completing diplomatic assignments in Indonesia, Samoa, and Fiji. Most recently, Luke ran the Public Affairs team at Australia’s largest embassy in Jakarta. Luke also worked in economic research at the Reserve Bank and in renewables investment generation at the Australian Trade Commission in San Francisco.

    Luke holds a Master of Economics from the University of New South Wales.

    CEO of JANA Investment Advisers

    Georgie has more than 20 years’ experience in investment advice and strategy and has been
    with JANA for fourteen years across key leadership roles.

    Prior to her formal appointment as JANA’s CEO on 1 December 2022, Georgie was General
    Manager, Business Strategy and Innovation. Her speciality lies in business strategy and
    innovation, where she has played a central role in embedding technology-enabled resources
    to improve client outcomes and leading broader strategic initiatives, including a greater focus
    on sustainability.

    Georgie has held a number of client and research responsibilities since joining JANA in 2008.
    She was previously the Head of Implemented Consulting clients, with overall responsibility for
    JANA’s wide range of institutional Implemented Consulting clients, and prior to that was Head
    of the Alternative Investment Strategies research team.

    Before joining JANA, Georgie was a Research Analyst at Russell Investment Group with
    experience working in both the London and Sydney offices.

    Georgie holds a Master of Chemistry from Balliol College, Oxford University and was awarded
    the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter in 2006.

    Helga provides investment advice to trustees, directors and Investment Boards on fiduciary developments such as environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) factors and climate change. She advises on climate governance for transitioning to low-carbon portfolios, ESG strategy and scenario analysis.
