Unilever is arguably one of the first Global companies to recognize the critical importance of adopting a climate change agenda as one of the key pillars of their business strategy. The discussion will focus on understanding Unilever's climate change commitments, how they have gone about achieving their targets as well as why their leadership considers climate change to be so important to all their key stakeholders including but not limited to the consumer, their shareholders, their employees and their supply chain partners.

For this event, BritCham is honored to host two members of Unilever's Global Leadership Team: Alan Jope, the CEO of Unilever PLC, and his colleague, Dave Ingram, the Chief Procurement Officer.

Alan joined Unilever in the UK in 1985, subsequently working in North America for 14 years and in Asia for 13 years. Before being appointed as Chief Executive Officer, Alan served as President of Unilever’s Personal Care business from 2014 and continued as President when the name of the division changed in 2018 to Beauty & Personal Care.

From 2009 Alan led Unilever's business in China and North Asia, doubling its size and laying important foundations for future success. He was appointed to Unilever’s Leadership Executive in 2011 in his role as President of Unilever’s businesses across North Asia. His previous senior roles have also included President Russia, Africa & Middle East; global category leader for several of Unilever's Foods businesses; and President of Unilever's Home & Personal Care business in North America. Earlier, Alan worked in a number of sales and marketing roles in the UK, Thailand, and the US.

Alan holds a Bachelor of Commerce with honours from Edinburgh University, Scotland. He also graduated from Harvard Business School's General Management Program in 2001.

Having joined the business in 1989, Dave has worked in the UK, Mexico, Shanghai, Singapore and The Netherlands during his 30-year career with Unilever. His extensive experience spans supply chain operations, including procurement, manufacturing, logistics and planning.

Dave was appointed Chief Procurement Officer in April 2019, based in Singapore, and also assumed the role as Head of Unilever Asia (UAPL). He is responsible for the procurement of all goods and services globally, supporting the creation of over 400 brands sold in over 190 countries. Dave is also tasked with delivering ambitious sustainable sourcing strategies as part of Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan.
Prior to these appointments, Dave was a member of the Unilever European Executive and the Global Supply Chain leadership teams, responsible for the European Supply Chain. Additionally, Dave was responsible for the Global Planning organization and in developing the strategy for the Digital Re-Wire of the Supply Chain function.
In 2013, Dave led the Supply Chain for China and North Asia, supporting the doubling of the business and ultimately took responsibility as the Head of Supply Chain Asia in lying the foundations for e-commerce.

Dave holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK and is a native of Scotland.

Ainsley Mann has been with Swire Pacific since 1998 where he started in the Group’s Coca-Cola Bottling business before moving to the real estate sector in 2010. From 2006 to 2010 he was CEO of Coca-Cola Bottlers Manufacturing (Holdings) Ltd a joint venture between Swire, Coca-Cola and COFCO in China. After 20 years in China he moved back to Indonesia in 2013 where he currently heads up Swire Properties. Prior to joining Swire he worked in various real estate consultancies in the UK, Indonesia and Hong Kong between 1986 and 1993 before moving into the consumer product sector with Tait Asia in China and Vietnam. He is a qualified member of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the UK based Institute of Logistics & Transport. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Land Economics from the University of Aberdeen and is a graduate of the Executive Management Programme at INSEAD.

In 2012 he was nominated by Scottish Development International (SDI) as a “Global Scot” and shortly thereafter formally appointed by the First Minister of Scotland. As a Global Scot he has a responsibility to use influence, connections and experience to help foster commercial links with Scotland and is currently assisting initiatives in the seafood and marine energy sector between Scotland and Indonesia.

He is a keen sportsman and as his body has slowly given up he has spearheaded a number of unique sporting initiatives such as the first ever cricket event in North Korea in 2009, Japan Cricket’s 150 anniversary tour to the UK in 2013 and organized the first ever international cricket team (Scotland Women’s team) to tour China in 2006. Beyond sport he has been active in environmental education and until moving to Indonesia he held a Board position at the Jane Goodall Institute in China for many years.
